
The Ventura College men's water polo team won a pair of matches Friday at the Eduard "Tuna" Gorodetsky Mini Tournament at Santa Monica Friday. VC won a pair of rematches, defeating Los Angeles Trade Tech for the second time this season, 19-10, before besting El Camino for a second time 18-7. Clint Howard had a solid all-around day with six goals, five steals, four assists and three drawn exclusions for the Pirates (19-9, 3-1).
Ventura 19, Los Angeles Trade Tech 10
The Pirates dominated from the onset, opening up a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. The Beavers closed to within 8-4 at halftime but VC used a huge third quarter to put the match on ice. Jack Pickett led the offense with four gaols and three assists. Howard had three goals, three assists and three steals while CJ Daland netted three scores with a pair of assists, two drawn exclusions and a steal. Roger Escalante also totaled three goals with an assist. Luis Galvez did not allow a score while blocking three shots, and Andrew Escobar recorded five saves in the cage.
Ventura 18, El Camino 7
VC used a big third quarter once again to defeat the Warriors. The Pirates led 4-0 after one period and 6-4 at intermission. Ventura outscored El Camino 8-1 in the decisive stanza. Howard scored three times with an assist, three drawn exclusions and two steals and Daland led the offense with four goals. Coby Wiegman had a pair of scores with two steals while Micah Peterson and Kyle Goodrich scored three and two goals, respectively. Galvez once again did not allow a goal and turned back two shots and Escobar had five saves.
Ventura will travel to the Orange Coast Mini in Costa Mesa on Saturday Oct. 22, with matches scheduled against Grossmont and the OCC Pirates.
