MEN'S WTAER POLO: In the post-season, the goal is to play another game. The Pirates' men's water polo team will do just that after their 15-11 opening round victory over Mt. San Antonio college in the Southern California Regional Playoffs Thursday in Cerritos. The victory is the program's first post-season win since the 2008 SoCal quarterfinals. Tim Allen and Rogelio Coronado led the offense with six and five goals respectively while Sean McGee held down the net with six saves and five steals for VC (15-14).
The Pirates trailed the Mounties 3-2 after one quarter and 5-4 at halftime. Ventura exploded for seven goals in the third period, taking a commanding 3-goal advantage after 24 minutes, expanding it to four goals early in the final stanza. The Pirates stepped up the defense in the second half, which led to success on the counter attack offensively, as well.
Joe Yamamoto scored a goal with four assists and six steals defensively while Tyler Remnant, Hunter Shevitt and Rodrigo Siracusa also found the back of the net for Ventura.
VC advances to play No. 1-seed Long Beach on Friday Nov. 15 at 10:15 am at the Falcon Aquatic Center at Cerritos College in a regional quarterfinal match.
