
MEN'S WATER POLO: The Ventura College men's water polo team evened their season record with two more wins at the Cuesta Tournament on Saturday, defeating Cabrillo 15-8 in the morning, and finishing up the 4-0 sweep of Northern California teams with a 14-4 victory over Merced in the afternoon. Tyler Remnant, Rodrigo Siracusa and Joe Yamamoto led VC's balanced offense with four goals each on the day. Goalie Sean McGee had 14 saves for the Pirates (9-9, 1-1).
Ventura 15, Cabrillo 8
Ventura earned another solid victory in their morning match in San Luis Obispo, 15-8 over Cabrillo College. Remnant and Siracusa each scored three goals while Yamamoto, Tim Allen, Jimmy Ewald, and Josue Cornejo all netted a pair of goals. Rogelio Coronado also scored for the Pirates and McGee posted nine saves.
Ventura 14, Merced 4
The Pirates closed out the perfect weekend with the runaway victory over the Blue Devils. Ventura had 10 players score, led by two goals each from Yamamoto, Coronado, Nick Miranda, and Michael Nott. Six others notched one goal each, including Remnant, Siracusa, Allen, Ewald, Kevin Smallwood, and Hunter Shevitt. McGee had five saves in the match.
The Pirates host Santa Monica in Western State Conference play on Wednesday Oct. 23. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:15pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center. VC will travel to Huntington Beach on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25 for a tournament at Golden West College.
