
MEN'S WATER POLO: At the end of the day, it does not matter if it is by one goal or 100, a loss is a loss, and the Pirates' men's water polo team knows that all too well after a pair of one-goal losses Saturday to close the Golden West Tournament in Huntington Beach. VC dropped the first match in overtime, 13-12 against Grossmont before yielding a late score in their 8-7 loss to San Joaquin Delta in the tournament finale. Tim Allen scored five goals on the day while Tyler Remnant and Joe Yamamoto each netted four. Sean McGee had 15 saves for the Pirates (11-12, 2-1).
Ventura 12, Grossmont 13 (OT)
Remnant led the Ventura effort with four goals and Yamamoto scored three times. Allen found the back of the net twice while Rodrigo Siracusa, Jimmy Ewald and Josue Cornejo all scored one goal each. McGee turned back nine Griffin shots in goal.
Ventura 7, San Joaquin Delta 8
The Pirates had trouble finding the net, and gave up a last second goal in the loss to the Mustangs. Allen led VC with three goals while Yamamoto, Siracusa, and Rogelio Coronado also scored goals. McGee had six saves.
The Pirates will return to Western State Conference play on Wednesday Oct. 30 at Los Angeles Valley before closing the regular season at home on Friday Nov. 1. Ventura will host Mt. San Antonio at 3:00 pm and Fullerton at 7:00 pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
