VC Athletics Transfers 36 Student Athletes to 4-Year Schools in '21
August 11, 2021In a year like no other with online learning, season cancelations and COVID-shortened schedules, Ventura College Athletics still transferred 36 student athletes to four-year schools for the 2020-21 academic year, as of August 10. Of those transfers, 19 plan on continuing competing in their sport(s) across all divisions of intercollegiate competition. There were 15 transfers who received athletic scholarships while 20 received academic aid to their new school. -
Pirates Excel Academically in 2021 Spring Semester
June 08, 2021Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in the spring semester, achieving an overall 3.22 grade point average. A total of 106 Pirates earned Dean's List honors by posting at least a 3.5 GPA in 12 or more units of study, with 49 of them recording a perfect 4.0 GPA of all A's. Of VC's 19 intercollegiate athletic teams, 17 earned an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.

Pirate Golfers Finish Campaign at Olivas Links
May 26, 2021On the final day of competition in the Covid-shortened 2021 season, the Ventura College golf team battled Antelope Valley in a two-man best ball format at the "Western State Conference Championships" held at Ventura's Olivas Links Golf Course. The Pirate duo of Steen Zeman and Kaden Santos won the event with a 3-under 69 followed by Evan Colborn and Joshua Calderon who carded a 1-under 71.

Golf Competes at Saddleback Invitational
May 24, 2021The VC golf team traveled to Orange County Monday to compete in the Saddleback Invitational at the par-72 Tijeras Creek Golf Club. Steen Zeman was the low man for the Pirates with a 2-over 74, good for a tie for fourth place overall as Ventura posted a team score of 406, placing sixth of the eight participating teams.

Pirate Golfers Take WSC Event at Olivas
May 19, 2021The Ventura College golf team shot a season-best 373, defeating Antelope Valley in the Western State Conference No. 5 event at Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura on Wednesday. Steen Zeman and Eric Burschinger were the low Pirates, each carding a 1-over 73.

Pirates 6th in Orange Empire Conference Event
May 17, 2021With limited competition in the Western State Conference in this Covid-shortened 2021 season, the VC golf team traveled to Riverside on Monday to play in the Riverside Invitational featuring Eight Orange Empire Conference teams. The Pirates posted a score of 398, good for sixth place overall in the event. Evan Colburn shot a 2-over 74 at Canyon Crest Country Club to place in a tie for ninth place overall.

Golfers Defeat Antelope Valley on the Road
May 12, 2021Steen Zeman shot a 1-under 71 and Aaron Friedland was just two stroke behind to lead the Pirate golf team to a big win over host Antelope Valley Wednesday in a dual Western State Conference competition. VC shot a solid 383 as a team to easily defeat the Marauders, who posted a 435, at the par-72 Antelope Valley Country Club in Palmdale.

Colborn, Friedland Lead Ventura Past AVC on Links
May 03, 2021Evan Colborn and Aaron Friedland each shot a 1-over 73 Monday, and Steen Zeman turned in a 2-over 74 to lead the Ventura College golf team past Antelope Valley Monday at he River Ridge Golf Course, Victoria Lakes Course. The Pirates carded a team total of 380 to defeat the visiting Marauders, who scored 421. Allan Hancock College also competed, but did not field enough players for a team score.

Colborn Leads Pirate Golfers at Hancock in 2021 Opener
April 12, 2021It wasn't exactly a huge competition, but six VC golfers and two players from Allan Hancock College teed up on Monday at Santa Maria Country Club in the Pirate golf team's first competition in over a year. Evan Colborn shot a 5-over 77 to lead the way for Ventura and Ryan Gonzalez made his debut for the orange and black with a score of 79.

Pirate Spring Sports Return to Action
April 08, 2021It has been 392 days since the Pirates competed in an intercollegiate contest, but in two days they return. On Saturday April 10 the VC baseball team hosts Cuesta College for a double-header and the Pirates' men's tennis team travels to Westmont College to usher in Ventura College's post-Covid athletic schedule. All 10 of Ventura's spring sports are scheduled to return to competition in the coming weeks, although fans will not be allowed inside venues due to county and state health department restrictions.

COVID-19 Update, VCCCD "Opts-In" For Spring II Seasons
March 09, 2021After opting out of Spring I season sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) will “opt-in” for the upcoming California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Spring II season. The decision is based on CCCAA COVID-19 guidelines and input from the athletic directors, coaches and athletic staff of Moorpark, Oxnard and Ventura colleges. The Spring II season includes men’s and women’s competitive sports and begins April 10. The length of the season varies by sport.

99 Students Athletes on Dean's List; 13 Teams Above 3.0
January 07, 2021Student athletes at Ventura College continued to achieve academic honors in the fall 2020 semester with 99 of them earning a spot on VC's Dean's List by posting a 3.5 or better grade point average in 12 or more units. Of those honores, 47 earned perfect 4.0 GPA's signifying all A's in their classes. Meanwhile, 13 of the Pirates' 19 intercollegiate athletic teams achieved an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.

Day of Giving Comes to VC Athletics Tuesday Dec. 1
November 23, 2020After Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the VC Athletic Department is hosting a Day of Giving on Tuesday Dec. 1. The fundraiser conducted through text messaging or online will benefit Pirate Athletics, or any of VC's 19 sports teams. The goal for the day is to have at least 50 individual donors and raise at least $1,000 combined.

VC Athletics Partners With ASVC in Voter Registration Drive
September 25, 2020Tuesday September 22 was National Voter Registration Day. In conjunction with that day, the Ventura College Athletic Department has paired with the Associated Students of Ventura College to encourage 100 percent voter registration among eligible student athletes and 100 percent registration among VC students. The effort is also encouraging all students to become educated voters and participate in this fall's election.

Student Athlete Academic Achievement Honored on Dean's Lists
September 14, 2020Despite the movement of classes online and the cancellation of most of the spring season, student athletes at Ventura College continued to achieve academically in 2019-20. In the fall, 99 student athletes made the Dean's list, signifying a grade point average of 3.5 or above, while 107 student athletes were honored on the Dean's list in the spring 2020 semester.
