Men's Water Polo Ends Season with Victory
November 09, 2024The VC men's water polo team had a lot to play for on Saturday. With their 15-12 victory over Citrus in the thrid-place game of the Western State Conference Tournament, the Pirates finish their season with a 13-13 overall mark, the program's best finish since 2016. Evan Augusta led the inspired effort with four goals while Samuel Abarca, Michael Soho and Brayden Black all scored twice in the win.Stephen McNaughten turned in 10 saves in the cage for Ventura.

Men's Polo Dropps Close Decision in WSC Semi's
November 08, 2024The Pirates' men's water polo team went down swinging Friday, dropping a 23-17 decision to Los Angeles Valley in the semifinal round of the Western State Conference Tournament at Citrus College. Evan Augusta and Owen Patterson each scored four goals in the effort while Michael Soho, Samuel Abarca and Thomas Shea each scored twice. Patterson also had three drawn exclusions and a pair of steals in the game for VC (12-12, 2-3).

Pirate Men Celebrate Día de los Muertos with Two Wins
November 02, 2024The Pirates' men's water polo team left the Día de los Muertos Tournament in Chula Vista witha pair of wins Saturday, defeating San Digeo Miramar 18-4 before outlasting San Diego Mesa 12-10 in the finale. Owen Patterson again led VC (12-11, 2-2) with seven goals on the day while Evan Augusta and Brayden Black each netted five in the two games. Ethan Ortiz totaled eight saves in the cage.

Men's Polo Falls Twice at Día de los Muertos Tourney
November 01, 2024The VC men's water polo team dropped a pair of contests Friday at the Día de los Muertos Tournament at Southwestern College in Chula Vista. VC fell to Palomar 13-9 in the opener before dropping a 22-13 decision against Grossmont in the nightcap. Owen Patterson scored 11 goals on the day and Evan Augusta added five scores for Ventura (10-11 (2-2)).

Men's Polo Defeats Citrus For WSC No. 3 Seed
October 30, 2024The Ventura College men's water polo team defeated Citrus 17-8 Wednesday to secure the No. 3 seed in next week's Western State Conference Tournament, hosted by the Pirates. Owen Patterson scored five goals and drew three exclusions to lead VC (10-9, 2-2) and Brayden Black netted four scores. Thomas Shea and Evan Augusta each scored twice in the game while Ethan Ortiz and Stephen McNaughten recorded seven and five saves in goal, respectively.

October 26, 2024The VC men's water polo team captured a pair of victories Saturday to close the Golden West Tournament in Costa Mesa. Ventura (9-9, 1-2) took down Palomar 16-14 in the morning match before defeating Riverside 10-7 in the finale. Evan Augusta scored seven goals to lead the way for the Pirates and Stephen McNaughten recorded nine saves in the cage in the two wins.

October 25, 2024The VC men's water polo team split a pair of games Friday at the Golden West Tournament in Huntington Beach. The Pirates (7-9, 1-2) dropped a decision against the hosts before edging Sierra by a single goal. Owen Patterson scored four goals with a apir of steals and four drawn exclusions on the day while Michael Soho scored three times with two steals. Evan Augusta also netted a pair of scores.

October 18, 2024The Pirates' men's water polo team defeated Diablo Valley 15-11 Friday at the Cuesta Classic II in San Luis Obispo. In the second game o fthe day, VC dropped a decision to the host Cougars. Owen Patterson scored eight goals and recorded four drawn exclusions on the day while Evan Augusta had six scores with two steals. Samuel Abarca and Brayden Black each netted a pair of goals in the effort for Ventura (6-8, 1-2).

Owen Patterson le dthe Pirates wit six goals, two drawn exclusions and a steal while Erik Schwartz netted two scores. Wyatt Dingman dished out three assists while Michael Soho and Evan Augusta each dropped a pair of dimes.

October 09, 2024Playing at the Ventura Aquatic Center for the first time since their exhibition Alumni game on Aug. 31, the VC men's water polo team battled in their 15-11 defeat against Cuesta. Thomas Shea led the Pirate effort with three goals in the game while Evan Augusta scored twice with two assists and two steals.

October 02, 2024The VC men's water polo team opened Western State Conference play with a victory Wednesday, defeating Santa Monica 19-12 on the road. Owen Patterson was dominant in the post with 10 goals and hea added three steals defensively. Evan Augusta handed out six assists while Stephen McNaughton and Ethan Ortiz recorded six and five saves, respectively, in the cage.

Ventura has Easy Time at Crafton Hills
September 18, 2024The Pirates' men's water polo team raced out to an early 5-0 advantage and never looked back, scoring 19 of the first 20 goals at Crafton Hills Wednesday in Yucaipa. Owen Patterson led 11 VC scorers with four goals while Evan Augusta scored three times. Luigi Travi, Caleb Graffious, Erik Schwartz and Jessie Zepeda all found the inside o fthe cage twice in the victory.

September 14, 2024The VC men's water polo split two more games Saturday at the San Diego Miramar Tournament, bringing their weekend mark to 2-2. The Pirates defeated the hosts 18-9 in the first match of the day before falling to Grossmont 21-15 in the nightcap. Owen Patterson led VC (3-5) with six goals, eight steals and five drawn exclusions and Erik Schwartz netted five scores with a pair of drawn exclusions. Thomas Shea scored four goals with a pair of steals.

September 13, 2024The Pirates' men's water polo team won one of two games Friday at the San Diego Miramar Tournament. VC defeated San Diego Mesa 25-11 in the opener before falling to El Camino 23-16 in the nightcap. Evan Augusta scored nine goals on the day with four steals while Wyatt Dingman and Boaz Biglin each netted six scores in the two games. Ethan Ortiz led the way in the cage with 10 saves.

September 07, 2024The VC men's water polo team split a pair of matches Saturday on the final day of the Nyquist Invitational at West Valley College in Saratoga. The Pirates (1-3) ran away from Merced 15-6 in the first game and dropped a 14-10 decision to San Joaquin Delta in the finale. Boaz Biglin netted five goals on the day with three steals and five drawn ejections to lead the way while Evan Augusta scored four times with four assists and three steals.

September 06, 2024The VC men's water polo team dropped a pair of close games Friday to open their 2024 campaign at the Nyquist Invitational at West Valley College in Saratoga. The Pirates fell to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 11-9 before dropping a 12-10 decision to Modesto in the nightcap. Michael Soho totaled five goals with five steals on the day for the Pirates (0-2) while Boaz Biglin found the net four times.

VC Athletics 13th in California in NATYCAA Cup
August 12, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department claimed its 14th Top-13 finish in 19 years, placing 13th in California in the 2023-24 all-sports National Association of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup standings. Pirate Athletics totaled 106 points overall, besting its 105.5 points earned in 2022-23 that placed 12th. Ventura was also 17th for the second straight year in the Daktronics Cup Standings with two-years schools from California, Oregon and Washington.

VC Lists 70 transfers to 4-Year Schools
August 01, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department is proud to announce the transfer of 71 student athletes to four-year schools following their time with the Pirates. 48 of those transfers plan to continue their sport with 34 earning athletic scholarships. The VC class of 2024 will transfer to 48 different schools in 19 different states across the country. Additionally, 17 of the Pirate alumni have earned academic scholarships at their new schools.

Cugnoni, Wagner Named 1st Team All-WSC for MPolo
December 21, 2023The 2023 All-Western State Conference men's water polo awards have been released with Pirates Owen Cugnoni and Scott Wagner headlining the first team award winners for Ventura. Meanwhile, Michael Soho and Sebastian Cornejo were named second team All-WSC by the conference coaches and Thomas Vels and Matthew Ogonowski earned honorable mention honors.

Pirates Drop Final Two at WSC Tournament
November 04, 2023The VC men's water polo team's string of October success ran out in November as the Pirates dropped their final two games of the season in the Western State Conference Tournament at Los Angeles Valley Friday and Saturday. Ventura, the no. 4-seed in the draw, fell to No. 1 Cuesta in the semifinals before dropping a decision to No. 3 Citrus in the third-place game. Owen Cugnoni had five goals and three drawn exclusions over the weekend while Scott Wagner scored twice with three assists, two drawn exclusions and three steals.

Ventura Easily Advances in WSC Tourney
November 01, 2023The Pirates' men's water polo team easily advanced past the quarterfinal round of the Western State Conference Tournament Wednesday with a 23-9 win over Santa Monica at Rio Mesa High School. Owen Cugnoni was on fire with nine goals, three drawn exclusions and two steals and Michael Soho added four scores with two assists. Goalie Stephen McNaughten had seven saves in the cage to anchor the VC defense.

Pirates Complete 4-0 Weekend in San Diego
October 28, 2023The VC men's water polo team completed at the Día de los Muertos Tournament Saturday with wins over San Diego Miramar and Grossmont. The victories allowed VC to leave San Diego with a perfect 4-0 weekend and stretch their winning streak to five games. Owen Cugnoni scored another 10 goals in the two games while Michael Soho netted six scores. Stephen McNaughten recorded 14 saves in the cage on the day.

October 27, 2023The VC men's water polo team came alive Friday at the Día de los Muertos Tournament in Chula Vista with a pair of victories. The Pirates held on to defeat Palomar in the first game of the day before coming back in the fourth quarter to beat host Southwestern, 21-18. Owen Cugnoni had a stellar day with 13 goals and four drawn exclusions while Scott Wagner found the inside of the cage seven times. Michael Soho added five goals in the two games.

VC Routs Santa Monica on Sophomore Day
October 25, 2023The Pirates' men's water polo team honored its sophomore class in style on Wednesday with a 16-7 victory over Santa Monica at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Sophomores Sebastian Cornejo and Thomas Vels scored four and three goals, respectively, and Owen Cugnoni led the way with five scores as VC (6-12, 1-3) clinched the No. 4-seed in next week's Western State Conference Tournament.

October 20, 2023The VC men's water polo team outscored El Camino 6-0 in the fourth quarter Friday to defeat the Warriors 13-8 in their first game of the Eduard “Tuna” Gorodetsky Mini at Santa Monica. In the nightcap, the Pirates dropped a hard-fought 10-6 decision to Palomar. Owen Cugnoni had seven goals on the day, including four in the decisive final stanza against ElCo and Scott Wagner found the inside of the cage five times on the day.

October 18, 2023The VC men's water polo team played a strong first half Wednesday at Citrus, but could not keep the momentum in their 11-5 defeat against the Owls. Ventura and Citrus were tied 4-4 at halftime before the Pirates were outscored 7-1 after intermission. Michael Soho and Owen Cugnoni each scored a pair of goals for VC and Matthew Ogonowski scored the other.

VC Holds Off El Camino at Santa Monica Mini
October 13, 2023The VC men's water polo team held off El Camino late to hold on to a 13-12 victory in the finale of the Santa Monica Mini Friday. Owen Cugnoni , Michael Soho and Ryan Webb each scored three goals in the victory and Shawn Coyner had six saves in the cage in the win. Earlier in the day, the Pirates dropped a 19-12 decision to Cypress.

October 04, 2023The VC men's water polo team kept their game with visiting Los Angeles Valley close for a half before succumbing to the Monarchs 18-8 Wednesday at the Ventura Aquatic Center. The Pirates were tied after one quarter and trailed 8-6 at halftime. Owen Cugnoni scored four goals to lead VC and Scott Wagner had three. Thomas Vels had the other goal for the Pirates.
