Pirate Student Athletes Prominent on Dean's Lists for 22-23August 07, 2023Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2022-23, achieving an overall 3.29 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a 3.19 overall GPA in the spring semester. A total of 108 Pirates achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher, earning mention on the Dean's List in the fall 2022 term while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 53 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In spring 2023, 110 VC student athletes were named on the Dean's List with 45 posting perfect GPA's.

Mike Arteaga Named Men's Water Polo CoachMay 23, 2023The VC Athletic Department has named Mike Arteaga as the new head men's water polo coach for the 2023 season. Most recently the assistant boys coach at Harvard-Westlake High School, Arteaga comes to Ventura College with experience at the NCAA Division III level with Cal Lutheran to the club level where he currently is the youth technical director with the LA Premier Water Polo Club. Arteaga is also a mental health counselor at Oxnard College.

Nava Earns 1st Team All-WSC HonorDecember 06, 2022Men's water polo sophomore Alexis Nava has been named first team All-Western State Conference for the 2022 season as voted by the conference coaches last month. Nava, a Pacifica High School alumnus, led VC in goals scored, steals and ejections drawn during this past season. Sebastion Cornejo and Joseph Lowrey were named second team All-WSC while George Bonilla and Carlos Gonzalez earned Honorable Mention nods.

Men's Polo Ends Season in WSC TourneyNovember 02, 2022The VC men's water polo team had its 2022 season come to an end in the first round of the Western State Conference Tournament at Citrus on Wednesday. The Pirates dropped a 14-9 decision to the Owls in the bracket's play-in game. Alexis Nava led Ventura with three goals and a steal while Joe Lowry netted two scores with an assist and a theft. Matthew Ogonowski also contributed two goals and an assist in the effort

Men's Polo Ends Regular Season at LA ValleyOctober 26, 2022The VC men's water polo team ended the regular season with a contest at Los Angeles Valley College in Valley Glen Wednesday. Joe Lowry led the Pirates with a goal, two steals, a field block and two drawn ejections. Carlos Gonzalez also grabbed a pair of steals in the setback to the Monarchs.

Pirates Continue Improvement in Home FinaleOctober 19, 2022The VC men's water polo team continued to show progress Wednesday afternoon in their home finale against Santa Monica at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Alexis Nava continued his solid play with a six-goal performance while Sebastian Cornejo scored a goal with two assists and two steals. Joe Lowry recorded a pair of goals with two helpers in the 16-10 setback to the Corsairs.

Men's Polo Travels to Cuesta TournamentOctober 15, 2022The VC men's water polo team competed at the Cuesta 2 Tournament Saturday in San Luis Obispo. Sophomore Alexis Nava led the effort with eight goals and three steals in the Pirates' games against Las Positas and Ohlone colleges. George Bonilla recorded three goals and three steals on the day.

Men's Polo Plays Two at Santa Monica MiniOctober 14, 2022The VC men's water polo team played a pair of games Friday at the Santa Monica Mini, falling to Southwestern and Cypress. Alexis Nava had a pair of scores on the day with three steals while Joe Lowry also netted two goals for the Pirates.

VC Drops Water Polo Game at CitrusOctober 05, 2022The VC men's water polo team dropped a 15-9 decision at Citrus College in Glendora Wednesday. Joe Lowry, Alexis Nava, Sebastian Cornejo and Carlos Gonzalez all had a pair of goals for Ventura in the balanced effort against the Owls. Sebastian Ayala turned back 10 shits in the cage.

Ventura Drops Pair on Final Day at SaddlebackOctober 01, 2022The VC men's water polo team dropped a pair of decisions Saturday to wrap up the Saddleback Invitational in Mission Viejo. The Pirates fell to Merced in the first game 14-7 before dropping a 12-7 final against Modesto. Alexis Nava once again led the Pirate offense with seven goals on the day and Matthew Ogonowski netted three scores. George Bonilla found the inside of the cage twice with two steals in the morning contest.

Men's Polo Competes at Saddleback InvitationalSeptember 30, 2022The Pirates' men's water polo team competed at the Saddleback Invitational Friday in Mission Viejo, dropping contests against Palomar and El Camino. Alexis Nava exploded for six goals in the nightcap while Joe Lowry and Matthew Ogonowski each netted a pair of goals on the day for the orange and black.

Pirates Fall in WSC OpenerSeptember 28, 2022The Ventura College men's water polo team dropped its Western State Conference opener Wednesday afternoon. The Pirates fell 16-4 to state No. 3-ranked Cuesta at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Sebastian Cornejo scored a pair of goals for VC while Alexis Nava and Carlos Gonzalez also found the inside of the cage.

Pirates Drop Pair at Central Coast InviteSeptember 24, 2022The VC men's water polo team dropped a pair of games Saturday at the Central Coast Invitational hosted by Cuesta College. Ventura lost to Golden West in the first game of the day before dropping the tournament finale to Mt. San Antonio. Joe Lowry led the Pirates with three goals on the day.

Men's Water Polo Opens at Cuesta TournamentSeptember 23, 2022The VC men's water polo team opened their 2022 campaign Friday at the Central Coast Invitational hosted by Cuesta College. The Pirates dropped a pair of matches, falling to West Valley and Merced. Michael Andrews scored three goals with a pair of assists on the day to lead the VC effort.

With the start of the new seasons, VC Athletics is excited to announce our promotional schedule for Fall 2022, beginning with a pizza party/tailgate party on Saturday Sept. 3 in partnership with the Associated Students of Ventura College.

Pirate Athletics Returns for 2022-23August 24, 2022After a banner year for Ventura College athletics in 2021-22, the Pirates are back in action to start the 2022-23 academic year. The season starts on Friday Aug. 26 with VC volleyball hosting its annual Kick-Off Tri with matches against Copper Mountain at 12:00 noon and versus Imperial Valley at 5:00 pm in the Athletic Event Center. The Pirate soccer team also kicks off Friday hosting College of the Canyons at 5:00 pm at the VC Sportsplex. Tickets for both teams' home contests are available online at https://ventura.vbotickets.com/events and can be bought and printed at home. Additionally, fans can scan a QR code at the door and purchase tickets on their smart device.
