MPolo Earns More Honors
December 13, 2013The best Ventura College men's water polo season in five years has gotten better with the announcement of the All-American/All-Southern California honors recently. Sophomores Tim Allen and Joe Yamamoto, the foundation of the Pirate attack for the past two seasons, were both honored by Southern California coaches. Allen earned first-team All-SoCal recognition, and was also named All-American while Yamamoto was named second-team All-SoCal. -
Four from Men's Polo All WSC
December 02, 2013Four players form the Ventura College men's water polo team have earned first-team All-Western State Conference honors for 2013, as selected by the conference coaches. Sophomore drivers Tim Allen and Joe Yamamoto, along with sophomore goal keeper Sean McGee and sophomore center back Jimmy Ewald earned the distinction for their outstanding play for first-year head coach Tim Settem. -
Pirates Fall to No. 1 Long Beach
November 15, 2013Ending what first-year head coach Tim Settem called "a good run while it lasted," the Pirates' men's water polo team dropped a 14-5 decision to No. 1 Long Beach Friday in the Southern California Regional Quarterfinals at Cerritos College. Joe Yamamoto led VC with four goals and three steals and Sean McGee had eight saves and two steals to lead Ventura (15-15). Rogelio Coronado netted the other goal in the match for VC. -
Men's Polo Advances in Playoffs
November 14, 2013In the post-season, the goal is to play another game. The Pirates' men's water polo team will do just that after their 15-11 opening round victory over Mt. San Antonio college in the Southern California Regional Playoffs Thursday in Cerritos. The victory is the program's first post-season win since the 2008 SoCal quarterfinals. Tim Allen and Rogelio Coronado led the offense with six and five goals respectively while Sean McGee held down the net with six saves and five steals for VC (15-14). -
VC Polo Headed to Playoffs
November 11, 2013The Pirates' men's and women's water polo team have both received at-large bids for the Southern California Regional Playoffs beginning Thursday Nov. 14 at Cerritos College. The VC men (14-14), runner-up finishers in the Western State Conference Tournament over the weekend, have received the No. 9 seed and will play No. 8 Mt. San Antonio College (18-10) at 1:15 pm. Meanwhile the Pirate women (18-9) received the No. 10 seed and will take on No. 7 Orange Coast (11-10) at 2:30 pm. -
VC 2nd at WSC Polo Tourney
November 09, 2013Reaching the WSC final for the first time since 2009, the Ventura College men's water polo team placed second at the Western State Conference Tournament at Santa Monica College on Friday and Saturday. The No. 2-seeded Pirates defeated No. 3 Los Angeles Valley 10-6 on Friday before falling to No. 1 Cuesta 10-7 on Saturday. Tim Allen and Tyler Remnant each scored four goals and Hunter Shevitt scored three in the two matches while Sean McGee recorded 17 saves in goal for the Pirates (14-14). -
Men's Polo Splits Ventura Mini
November 01, 2013Playing at home for the final time this season, the VC men's water polo team split a pair of matches Friday at the Ventura Aquatic Center, losing 13-11 to Mt. San Antonio College in overtime before defeating Fullerton 11-8 in the nightcap in the Ventura Mini. Joe Yamamoto led a balanced Pirate scoring attack with five goals in the two matches while Nick Miranda found the back of the net four times. Sean McGee had 16 saves in the cage for Ventura (13-13, 3-1). -
Pirates Top Monarchs in Pool
October 30, 2013The VC men's water polo team wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Western State Conference Tournament with a 13-6 victory at Los Angeles Valley College Wednesday in Valley Glen. Joe Yamamoto led the Pirates (12-12, 3-1) with four goals while Rodrigo Siracusa, Rogelio Coronado and Nick Miranda all netted two goals each. Tyler Remnant, Hunter Shevitt, and Jimmy Ewald also found the back of the net for VC while Sean McGee captured eight saves. -
Men's Water Polo Drops Pair
October 26, 2013At the end of the day, it does not matter if it is by one goal or 100, a loss is a loss, and the Pirates' men's water polo team knows that all too well after a pair of one-goal losses Saturday to close the Golden West Tournament. VC dropped the first match in overtime, 13-12 against Grossmont before yielding a late score in their 8-7 loss to San Joaquin Delta. Tim Allen scored five goals on the day while Sean McGee had 15 saves for the Pirates (11-12, 2-1). -
VC Splits First Day at GWC
October 25, 2013The Ventura College men's water polo team split a pair of matches on the first day of the Golden West Tournament Friday. The Pirates saw their six-match win streak come to an end at the hands of Cerritos, 12-8 in the opener before getting back on the winning track against Palomar, 18-10. Joe Yamamoto scored eight times in the two matches and Tim Allen had seven goals. Sean McGee registered 31 saves for Ventura (11-10, 2-1). -
Men's Polo Wins Sixth Straight
October 23, 2013Playing a solid all-around game, the Pirates' men's water polo team defeated Santa Monica 10-7 Wednesday afternoon at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Tim Allen led the offense with four goals and Nick Miranda scored twice. Sean McGee had nine saves in goal for the Pirates (10-9, 2-1), who posted their sixth consecutive victory. -
Pirates Perfect 4-0 For Weekend
October 19, 2013The Ventura College men's water polo team evened their season record with two more wins at the Cuesta Tournament on Saturday, defeating Cabrillo 15-8 in the morning, and finishing up the 4-0 sweep of Northern California teams with a 14-4 victory over Merced in the afternoon. Tyler Remnant, Rodrigo Siracusa and Joe Yamamoto led VC's balanced offense with four goals each on the day. Goalie Sean McGee had 14 saves for the Pirates (9-9, 1-1). -
Men's Polo Wins Pair at Cuesta
October 18, 2013On the first day of the Cuesta Tournament in San Luis Obispo, the Pirates' men's water polo team defeated two Northern California opponents. They bested Sierra 10-9 in the morning game before routing Santa Rosa 19-6 in the nightcap. Nick Miranda scored eight goals on the day and Tim Allen, Rogelio Coronado and Joe Yamamoto each found the back of the net six times for VC (7-9, 1-1). Sean McGee had 11 saves in the two matches. -
Ventura Edges Citrus 14-12
October 16, 2013The Ventura College men's water polo team edged Citrus 14-12 Wednesday evening in Western State Conference play. Rogelio Coronado led the Pirates (5-9, 1-1) with five goals while Jimmy Ewald and Tim Allen scored twice each. Joe Yamamoto, Josue Cornejo, Rodrigo Siracusa, Nick Miranda, and Tyler Remnant also found the back of the net in the victory. Sean McGee had nine saves in goal. -

October 12, 2013The VC men's water polo team struggled to find consistency Saturday, dropping a 13-3 decision to Long Beach before falling to host Riverside 11-6 at the Riverside Tournament. Tim Allen and Joe Yamamoto each scored three goals on the day for VC (4-9) and Sean McGee recorded 33 saves in the two matches. -

October 11, 2013The VC men's water polo team had mixed results Friday, splitting a pair of matches on the first day of the Riverside Tournament. Ventura (4-7, 0-1) defeated Cerritos 8-7 in overtime to begin the day before losing a physical match to Orange Coast 14-8 in the nightcap. Tim Allen and Joe Yamamoto each scored four goals on the day and Rodrigo Siracusa scored three times. Sean McGee had 21 saves. -
Third Quarter Sinks Pirates
October 09, 2013The Pirates' men's water polo team had visiting Cuesta on the ropes Wednesday afternoon, leading 5-3 just seconds into the third quarter. The No. 6-ranked Cougars responded with eight of the next nine goals over an eight minute span to take control of the match, defeating Ventura 11-8 in the Pirates' Western State Conference opener. Joe Yamamoto had four goals and an assist and Tim Allen scored three times for VC (3-6, 0-1). -
Alums Best Current Team in OT
September 28, 2013It took extra time, but the old guys rule. The Pirate water polo team lost a 14-13 overtime match to a team of VC alumni Saturday at the Ventura Aquatic Center in the program's annual alumni game. Tim Allen led a balanced attack by the current Pirates with four goals while Joe Yamamoto, Rogelio Coronado and Rodrigo Siracusa all netted three goals each. -
Pirate Men Split at Cuesta
September 21, 2013The young VC Men's water polo team and first-year head coach Tim Settem gained valuable experience, splitting their second day's matches at the Cuesta Invitational in San Luis Obispo Saturday. Ventura (3-4) defeated conference foe Los Angeles Valley 9-7 before narrowly falling to Riverside 12-11 in the tournament finale. Joe Yamamoto scored five goals and Nick Miranda and Tim Allen each netted four scores while Sean McGee had 19 saves in goal for VC. -

September 20, 2013Showing some gritty defense, the Pirate men's water polo team split a pair of matches on the first day of the Cuesta Invitational in San Luis Obispo Friday. Goalie Sean McGee had 22 saves in the two matches while seven different Pirates recorded goals, led by two each fro Tim Allan, Rogelio Coronado and Rodrigo Siracusa. -
Pirate Comeback Falls Short
September 13, 2013Overcoming a slow start, the Pirate men's water polo team nearly made a great comeback Friday afternoon, falling by an 8-7 score at Cerritos College. VC (1-2) gave up the first four goals of the game, but stiffened the defense, allowing just one goal in the second half to set the stage for the comeback. Tim Allen led the offense with three scores, while goalie Sean McGee had 13 saves to help spur the comeback, as well. -
Men's Polo Splits Opening Day
September 06, 2013Traveling to the Golden West Mini Tournament in Huntington Beach, the Pirates' men's water polo team opened the 2013 season with a split in a pair of matches Friday. Ventura lost to the defending state champion hosts 20-3 in the opener before rebounding to defeat Palomar 10-8 in the nightcap. The win was VC's first under new head coach Tim Settem. Sean McGee had 31 saves in the two matches to lead the way for VC (1-1). -
Settem Named Men's Polo Coach
June 06, 2013The Ventura College Athletic Department is proud to announce the hiring of Tim Settem as head coach of the Pirates’ men’s water polo team. Settem, a former NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year award winner, most recently served as the head coach for the girl’s water polo team at Hueneme High School.
