In the 36 hole Western State Conference Finals the Ventura College men's golf team picked the right time to have their best team finishes of the season. Needing to finish in the top three on the day to earn a berth in the Southern California Regionals, the Pirates finished third in the first 18 holes and then fired a first place team round over the final 18 holes. Brandon Resnick, Nick Bublitz and Kyle Dollison each fired a pair of rounds in the 70's for the Pirates.
Ventura came out in the first 18 holes and put together a third place round of 401 behind College of the Canyons and Citrus. VC was lead by Resnick and Bublitz who both fired rounds of 77 to pace the Pirates. Kyle Dollison put up a round of 78 in the first 18 holes to be the third Ventura golfer to fire in the 70's. Following the opening 18 holes VC was in good position for a Southern California Regional playoff berth one win ahead of Santa Barbara City with just 18 holes of golf left in the WSC season.
VC saved it's best 18 holes of team golf on the year for their final 18 holes of the regular season. Ventura had five different golfers fire rounds in the 70's topped by Resnick who fired a round of 73 good for the second best round of the afternoon portion of the day. He was joined by Bublitz and Dollison who fired round of 76 and 75 respectively. Austin Kratochvil put together a solid final 18 holes of the regular season with a round of 75 and Emil Ozeke was the final Pirate golfer to finish in the 70's with a second round of 79. VC finished with a team round of 378, three shots ahead of COC and six shots ahead of SBCC.
The Pirates placed three golfers on the All Western State Conference team. Resnick, Kratochvil and Dollison earned the honors for the strong 2016 seasons in WSC play.
The strong showing by the Ventura golfers earned the team a berth in the Southern California Regionals to be played on Monday May 9 at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, Ca. The tee time for the day is set for 7:00 am.
