Ventura College men's golf team took to the course at Valencia Country Club on a warm windy day and brought home a second place finish. The Pirates as a team shot a 403 and finished behind College of the Canyons in second place. Emil Ozeke topped the Ventura score sheet with a two over par 74 for the day.
The Pirates had been patiently awaiting their opportunity to return to the course and it showed as they used a team effort to finish in second place at the first Western State Conference match of the season. Ventura's 403 team score was 19 shots behind COC who came in at 384, but was still nine shots better than third place SBCC.
Valencia Country Club hosted the opening round of WSC play and with a par 72 course no Pirate was able to shot under par, but Ozeke came closestv which put him in third place for the day. He was trailed by Austin Kratochvil with a 76 who finished in a tie for fourth place and finally Matt Sieger was third best for the Pirates with a 82 and good for a 12th place tie.
Ventura will return to the course on Monday Feb. 15 for the second round of WSC play to be hosted by Santa Barbara City College. The tee off is set for 10:00 am and will be played at Alisal Ranch Golf Club.
