The Ventura College men's golf team began their 2016 season on the road at the Bakersfield Invitational held at Seven Oaks Country Club. With seven teams competing in the invitational the Pirates placed third with a team total of 324. Brandon Resnick and Kyle Dollison paired up to fire a four under par 104.
The Pirates were set for a long day of golf as they faced twenty seven holes on the day in a best ball two man pairing invitational set up. The Pirates as a team were able to shoot even par for the day in three two man pairings. Resnick and Dollison were the top scoring team for the Pirates, but not far behind them were Emil Ozeke and Kevin Leblanc who paired up to shoot an even par 108 for their day. The pairing of Brian Wipf and Matt Sieger finished their day four over par at 112.
Ventura was able to finish in third place for the day following only Reedley College who shot a team total of 302 to win the inviational. While Santa Barbara City College edged out VC for second place with a team total of 320 just ahead of the Pirates.
Ventura will return to the course on Monday Feb. 8 for their first Western State Conference match of the year. The match will be hosted by College of the Canyons at the Valencia Country Club with all the WSC teams participating. Tee off is set for 10:00 am.
