With their third place finish at the 36-hole Western State Conference Championships, the Ventura College golf team qualified for the CCCAA SoCal Regional Tournament. The Pirates, needing to finish third to gain the team berth to the regionals, put together team scores of 377-372, 749, tow of their top four round of the season.
Emil Ozeke led the Pirates with a pair of 1-over rounds. His 73-73, 146 on the par-72 Rancho Vista Gold Course in Palmdale earned all-WSC honors for the Pirate freshman. Alex Hood was next for VC at 76-75, 148, followed by Remy Smaby (75-75, 151), Greg Brown (78-74, 152), Matthew Thomas (80-74, 154) and Patrick Holden (78-75, 155).
Canyons won the event with a 363-363, 743, followed by Santa Barbara at 364-365, 729. Allan Hancock was fourth, followed by Glendale, Antelope Valley, Citrus and Bakersfield.
The Pirates' afternoon score of 372 was their second best effort of the season, behind their 371 turned in last week at the WSC event at Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura. Olivas, conincedentally, is also the site of the CCCAA SoCal Regionals to be held on Monday May 4. Tee times for the 36-hole event will begin at 7:00 am.
