Matthew Thomas went low for the Pirates Wednesday, shooting a 1-under 71 to lead VC to a fifth place finish at the Eagle Golf Classic hosted by Mt. San Jacinto College.

The Pirate golf team rebounded from a rough outing Monday to place fifth at the Eagle Golf Classic hosted by Mt. San Jacinto College on Wednesday at the par-72 Soboba Springs Country Club. Orange Coast claimed the 16-team event with a team score of 359 and Riverside placed second at 361. The Pirates posted a team score of 378.
Matthew Thomas was the low man for VC, shooting a 1-under 71. Alex Hood posted a 74 while Remy Smaby and Patrick Holden each shot 77. Emil Ozeke had a 79 while Greg Brown recorded an 81.
Ventura returns to the links on Monday Feb. 23 at the Western State Conference event hosted by Bakersfield College at Rio Bravo Country Club.
