Remy Smaby led VC with a 2-over 74 at the first Western State Conference event of the season Monday in Valencia.

The Pirate golf team placed third at the initial Western State Conference event Monday at Valencia Country Club hosted by College of the Canyons. VC posted a team score of 388, finishing behind the host Cougars with 373 and two strokes behind Santa Barbara at 386. The Pirates earned a 5-2 head-to-head record against the other WSC schools in the event.
Remy Smaby was the low Pirate on the day with a 2-over par 74, followed by Emil Ozeke and Matthew Thomas at 77. Patrick Holden fired a 78 while Alex Hood and Brian Wipf each carded 82's.
VC will take the the links again on Monday Feb. 16 at Alisal Ranch Country Club at the WSC event hosted by Santa Barbara. Tee times begin at 10:00 am.
