Sophomore Remy Smaby led the Pirate golf team with a 6-over 78 Monday in VC's 2015 season opener at the Victoria Country Club in Riverside.

The Ventura College men's golf team began its 2015 season Monday, finishing in the rain at the Riverside Invitational at Victoria Country Club. Matthew Thomas and Remy Smaby led VC with six-over 78's on the par-72 course. The Pirates finished seventh of 12 competing teams, shooting a team score of 396, finishing behind host Riverside, who posted a score of 372 to win the tournament.
Following Thomas and Smaby for the Pirates were Greg Brown (79), Patrick Holden (80), Emil Ozeke (81), and Alex Hood (84).
The Pirates will next travel to Victorville on Monday Feb. 2 to play in the Victor Valley Invitational at Spring Valley Lake Country Club.
