Pirate Football Transfers Up to 30 from 2014July 15, 2015(Originally released Feb 4, 2015) Ventura College football and head coach Steve Mooshagian are proud to update that an additional seven Pirates from 2014 inked scholarships or committed to play at the four-year level this summer. Combined with the 14 student athletes who signed on National Signing Day in February and nine mid-year transfers, 30 Pirates from the 2014 team will be moving on to four-year schools.

Algattas Joins VC Football Coaching StaffJuly 02, 2015Daniel Algattas has joined the Ventura College football coaching staff as a full time faculty member, replacing the position held by longtime Pirate football and baseball coach Gary Anglin. He will serve the Pirates as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach in 2015 under sixth-year head coach Steve Mooshagian.

VC Assistant Jenkins Featured in Fresno State Alumni MagazineJune 08, 2015VC football assistant coach Ron Jenkins was featured in the Spring 2015 edition of the Fresno State Magazine. Jenkins, who is a volunteer coach for the Pirates who will begin his third year as a Player Development/Wide Receiver coach with the Pirates in 2015, works as a Youth Correctional Officer at the Ventura Youth Correctional Facility. He was recruited to Fresno State by current VC head coach Steve Mooshagian.

Ventura College Football Leads SCFA in Academic HonorsMarch 03, 2015In the list just released by the Southern California Football Association, the Pirate football team had 12 players named to the SCFA Scholar Athlete team for the 2014 season. Ventura's 12 honorees tops all football schools in the region. Offensive lineman Robert Lane leads the Pirates academically with a 3.54 grade point average for the fall semester.

14 Pirates Ink on National Signing Day, Transfers Up to 23 from 2014February 04, 2015Ventura College football and head coach Steve Mooshagian are proud to announce 14 Pirates from 2014 inked scholarships or committed to play at the four-year level on National Signing Day on Wednesday. Combined with nine mid-year transfers, 23 Pirates from the 2014 team will be moving on to four-year schools.

Longtime VC Coach Gary Anglin to Enter CCCFCA Hall of FameFebruary 02, 2015Longtime Pirate football coach Gary Anglin will be inducted into the California Community Colleges Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame at their annual induction dinner on March 14 in Visalia, it was announced Monday. Anglin spent 36 years on the sidelines for VC with both baseball and football before retiring from coaching last year. He will retire from his teaching position this spring.

Pirate Football Announces Nine Mid-Year TransfersJanuary 15, 2015Ventura College football coach Steve Mooshagian has announced that nine student athletes from the 2014 Northern Conference champion Pirates have transferred to four-year schools at mid-year. This will make them eligible to participate in spring workouts in preparation for the season next fall.

Paul Harris Named All-American for Pirate FootballJanuary 13, 2015Pirate sophomore Paul Harris has been named an All-American kick returner by the JC Athletic Bureau and the California Community College Football Coaches Association. Additionally, VC had four players named to the Region III All-California first-team.

Stanton, Mooshagian Lead Pirates Northern Conference AwardsDecember 04, 2014Sophomore running back Aaron Stanton has been named the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Offensive Player of the Year in voting by conference coaches while head coach Steve Mooshagian was named coach of the year.

Pirates Push No. 1 Riverside Despite Playoff LossNovember 22, 2014Proving they belonged with the "big boys" in the four-team Southern California Football Association playoffs, the No. 8-ranked Pirates pushed No. 1 Riverside before falling late 51-37 i the National Bowl and SCFA semifinals Saturday. Riverside scored the game-sealing touchdown with 2:22 remaining in the game to end VC's second banner season in the past three years.

Pirates to Travel to Riverside for SCFA SemifinalNovember 16, 2014For a school-record fourth year in a row, the Pirate football team is going bowling. And for the fourth time in school-history, the second in the past three years, the Pirates are going to the playoffs. The match-ups were announced Sunday, as SoCal No. 4-seed Ventura will travel to No. 1 Riverside to play in the National Bowl in a Southern California football Association semifinal contest on Saturday Nov. 22.

VC Claims Northern Conference Title, Playoff Spot With WinNovember 08, 2014For the second time in three seasons, the Pirate football team has claimed the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference championship and a spot in the SCFA Playoffs. Ventura (6-3, 5-0) soundly defeated Allan Hancock College 48-20 Saturday at the VC Sportsplex to clinch the title with one game remaining in the regular season.

Stanton, Davis Earn SCFA Player of the Week HonorsNovember 04, 2014Aaron Stanton and Aaron Davis were double trouble for the College of the Canyons football team on Saturday, and the two Pirates were rewarded Tuesday, earning Northern Conference Player of the Week honors from the Southern California Football Association. Stanton was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Davis earned the nod for Special Teams/All-Purpose.

Historic Performance Puts Pirates in Position to Pounce on TitleNovember 01, 2014The Pirate football team hung 64 points on the board Saturday night in their 64-35 win over College of the Canyons at the VC Sportsplex, the best total since scoring 66 points in the inaugural Citrus Cup game in 1968 against Moorpark. With the win, Ventura (5-3, 4-0) clinches at least a share of its second Northern Conference championship.

Pirates Remain in First Place With RoutOctober 18, 2014After quickly falling behind 7-0, the Pirate football team poured it on in their 50-19 rout of Pasadena City College Saturday at PCC's Robinson Stadium. Ventura (4-3, 3-0) amassed 264 yards in the air and 181 yards on the ground, scoring three touchdowns each way as they remained first place in the SCFA Northern Conference standings.

Pirates Can't Sustain Effort Against Golden WestOctober 11, 2014The Pirates seemingly had assumed control of the game midway through the third quarter, but a controversial fumble shifted momentum, allowing Golden West to come from behind to defeat Ventura 32-20 Saturday night at the VC Sportsplex. VC led 20-12 when the game turned as they fell to 3-3 on the season with the non-conference loss.

With the win, the Pirates claim the Citrus Cup for the intra-county rivalry for the seventh consecutive year.

Marshall Named SCFA Offensive Player of the WeekSeptember 30, 2014Pirate wide received Chris Marshall has been recognized by the Southern California Football Association for his record-breaking performance Saturday at Cerritos. He broke a 38 year old VC record with 15 pass receptions in the Pirates' 35-31 upset win at Cerritos and has been named the SCFA Northern Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Quarterback Marc Evans proved, however, that you have a first chance to make a second impression Saturday night, leading the No. 15-ranked Pirates to a come-from-behind upset win at No. 5 Cerritos, 35-31.

Football Falls to No. 2 Mt. San Antonio in Home OpenerSeptember 20, 2014The Pirate football team ran into tough opposition Saturday, falling 27-3 to No. 2 Mt. San Antonio College in their 2014 home opener at the VC Sportsplex. Although the VC offense was able to move the ball against the Mounties, they had trouble protecting the quarterback as Mt. SAC recorded 12 sacks on the evening.

Pirate Football Can’t Hold Lead at FullertonSeptember 07, 2014The Pirate football team jumped out to a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter but could not hold on, falling at SoCal No. 1-ranked Fullerton 29-10 Saturday night in Yorba Linda. The Pirate defense held fast through 10 minutes of the third quarter before allowing the Hornets to take the lead while the VC offense struggled to put anything together, going three-and-out 11 times during the night.
