
Daniel Algattas has joined the Ventura College football coaching staff as a full time faculty member, replacing the position held by longtime Pirate football and baseball coach Gary Anglin. He will serve the Pirates as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach in 2015 under sixth-year head coach Steve Mooshagian.
Algattas comes to Ventura College having previously directed the Baldwin Park High School program as head coach and spending six years at Mt. San Antonio College.
Algattas graduated from Walnut High School in Walnut, California where he is in the schools football, soccer, and baseball Hall-of-Fame. On the gridiron he lead his team to its only CIF final appearance and and a 12-2 record his senior year. He was an All-CIF selection his Junior and Senior year as well as an All-League selection all three years he played on varsity. Coach Algattas concluded his playing career at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) as a quarterback. Prior to his arrival in Westwood Algattas played at Mt. SAC and Colorado State. Following his graduation from UCLA, Algattas joined the staff at Mt. SAC as an offensive assistant and special teams coach, helping lead the Mounties to the 2007 Southern California Championship.
Coach Algattas continued his career as an offensive coordinator at Baldwin Park High School in 2008, helping the Braves set numerous school passing records. From 2009-2013 he served as the pass-game coordinator, quarterbacks coach, and kicking coach at Mt. SAC. He helped lead the Mounties to two National Championships, five Southern California Championships, and five Conference Championships. Also, Algattas has had an impressive record of tutoring some of the nations best quarterbacks and helping them move on to such colleges as Tennessee, UCLA, USC, Tulane, UTEP, and San Jose State, among several others.
Algattas took over a Baldwin Park High School program that had gone winless just one year prior to his arrival. He was able to guide the Braves to a CIF playoff berth in his first season.
Algattas and his wife Karla have two children, son Nicholas (10) and daughter Olivia (1).
