Pirate running back Willie Cowan made the most of his opportunities Saturday. He had big plays on special teams and scored a touchdown in VC's 50-19 win at Pasadena, earning recognition as this week's Southern California Football Association Special Teams/All-Purpose Player of the Week.
Cowan had an unbelievable all around performance, including three tackles on kickoff coverage, pinning Pasadena deep in their own territory. he also had a stop for a loss on a fake punt attempt, and another stop on a botched snap on a punt. Cowan also blocked a punt for good measure on special teams.
The freshman from Smyrna, Tenn. also rushed for five yars and scored a touchdown on a 45-yard pass and run play in VC's big win.
