Aaron Stanton and Aaron Davis were double trouble for the College of the Canyons football team on Saturday, and the two Pirates were rewarded Tuesday, earning Northern Conference Player of the Week honors from the Southern California Football Association. Stanton was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Davis earned the nod for Special Teams/All-Purpose.
Stanton, a sophomore from Moorpark High School, was a pivotal piece in Ventura's 64‐35 win over Canyons. He carried the ball 25 times for 159 yards and two touchdowns and had a pair of kickoff returns for 72 yards, including a key 58-yarder. The Pirate running back finished with over 230 all-purpose yards and helped VC clinch a share of the Northern Conference championship. This is the second SCFA award for Stanton this season.
Davis, a freshman from Columbus, Ohio, returned two pooch kickoffs in electrifying fashion reversing field and acceleratingforward for 30 yards. He also took a punt with great coverage 83 yards for a touchdown in which he went sideto side, backwards and forward with unbelievable moves all the way to paydirt in the Pirates' highest scoring game in 46 years.
