Pirate sophomore Paul Harris has been named an All-American kick returner by the JC Athletic Bureau and the California Community College Football Coaches Association. Additionally, VC had four players named to the Region III All-California first-team.
Harris, whose hometown is Columbus, Ohio, averaged 35.1 yards per kick return, returning 20 kickoffs during the season, including three for a touchdown. He also rushed for 548 yard on 59 carries with four more scores, and caught 12 passes for 113 yards and another trip to the end zone.
Harris also led the VC contingent on the Region III California All-State First Team. He was joined by sophomore running back Aaron Stanton and sophomore offensive tackle Greg Hughes. Sophomore cornerback Isaiah Jackson was Ventura's lone All-State honoree on defense.
Ventura finished the year 6-5 (5-1), champions of the Northern Conference for the second time in three seasons. VC fell in the first round of the SCFA playoffs to No. 1-seeded Riverside City College. The Pirates were ranked No. 16 on the state and No. 9 in Southern California in the final JCAB Coaches Poll.
