Pirates 5th at WSC/Bakersfield; 7th in Rig City Invite
April 22, 2024The Pirate golf team came in fifth in the Western State Conference event at Bakersfield Country Club Monday and seventh in the Rig City Invitational played simultaneously and hosted by Bakersfield College. Logan Gonzalez shot a 3-over 75 to lead VC, tying for ninth in the WSC competition and 14th in the invitational. Ian Chapital carded a 4-over 76 and AJ Ryland shot a 5-over 77 for Ventura. -
VC 4th at Conference Match Hosted by Canyons
April 17, 2024The VC golf team came in fourth again Wednesday at the Western State Conference No. 7 match hosted by College of the Canyons at Palmdale's Rancho Vista Golf Course. The Pirates' Logan Gonzalez and Daniel Darwin each tied for 11th individually, each posting scores of 2-over 74.

Ventura 4th at WSC Event in San Dimas
April 15, 2024The VC golf team collectively shot a 377 Monday, good for fourth place in the Western State Conference event hosted by Citrus College at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course. AJ Ryland went low for the Pirates with an even par 72 to place seventh followed by Ian Chapital with a 2-over 74, good for a tie for eighth.

Pirates 6th at WSC Match at Aisal Ranch
April 08, 2024The VC men's golf team posted a team score of 405 Monday, placing sixth at the Western State Conference match at Alisal Ranch Golf Course in Lompoc, hosted by Santa Barbara. Logan Gonzalez posted the low score for the Pirates with a 5-over 77 followed by Daniel Darwin with a 78. Canyons remained in the top spot in the conference winning the match, which was rescheduled from Feb. 19.

Ryland Goes Low for Pirates at AVCC
April 01, 2024Pirate sophomore AJ Ryland had a career day Monday, posting a 7-under 65 to run away with medalist honors at the Western State Conference No. 6 event at Antelope Valley Country Club in Palmdale. The Pirates had another solid day as a team with a collective score of 377, finishing fourth in the eight-team WSC field. Logan Gonzalez tied for 11th carding a 2-over 74.

Pirates Shoot Low Score of the Year at Brookside
March 25, 2024The Pirate golf team had their best outing of the season Monday, posting a team score of 374 in the Western State Conference No. 5 event at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena. VC placed third in the tightly contested match in which the top five teams were separated by 12 strokes. Logan Gonzalez led Ventura with a 1-over par 71 to tie for third overall while Daniel Darwin tied for 11th with a 74.

Ryland Leads VC to 4th Place at State Preview
March 18, 2024Ventura sophomore AJ Ryland tied for second place with a 1-over 73 on Monday to help lead the Pirate golf team to a fourth place finish at the State Preview meet at Sandpiper Gold Course in Santa Barbara. The Pirates totaled a team score of 391 to finish six strokes off the pace set by Orange Coast.

VC Golf 6th at WSC Event, 9th at SoCal Preview
March 11, 2024The Ventura College golf team traveled to Rio Bravo Country Club in Bakersfield Monday to simultaneously compete in the Western State Conference No. 4 event and the Southern California Preview. The Pirates' team score of 403 placed them sixth in the conference field and ninth in the wide regional competition. AJ Ryland was the low man for Ventura with a 6-over 78, good for a tie for 14th in the WSC event and tied for 27th in the SoCal group.

Men's Golf 3rd in WSC Event in Santa Maria
March 04, 2024The Pirates returned to Western State Conference play Monday with a team score of 383 at the Santa Maria Country Club, placing third of the eight conference teams. Logan Gonzalez paced Ventura with a 1-over 73, good for fourth place overall while AJ Ryland was sixth with a 3-over 75. Ian Chapital showed a lot of patience carding a 2-under on the back nine after posting a 7-over going out. His 77 tied for 12th on the day along with teammate Logan Cook who was also 5-over.

Pirate Golfers Take Highly Contested Riverside Invite
February 26, 2024The Pirate golf team won the highly-contested Riverside Invitational Monday at the par-72 Victoria Club. VC posted a team score of 390 to win by one stroke over runner-up Santa Barbara. A total of seven strokes separated the top five teams in the event. AJ Ryland led Ventura with an even par 72 to tie for medalist honors and Hunter McCoy turned in a 6-over 78.

Pirate Men Open WSC Play With Close 6th Place Finish
February 12, 2024The Pirates' men's golf team opened Western State Conference play on Monday, hosting the other seven league teams at River Ridge's Victoria Lakes Golf Course in Oxnard. VC carded a team score of 394 to place a close sixth of the eight-team field, just four strokes from fourth. AJ Ryland and Logan Cook led Ventura, each with a 4-over 76 while Daniel Darwin carded a 78.

Men's Golf Seventh in Season-Opening Pt. Conception Invite
January 29, 2024The Pirate golf team opened their 2024 season with a solid showing at the Pt. Conception Invitational at La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc Sunday and Monday. Sophomore AJ Ryland led the Pirates with a two day performance of 80/84, 164, which tied for 20th overall out of 86 individual competitors. Daniel Darwin turned in an 84/82, 166. The Pirates totaled a team score of 410/428, 838 to finish seventh of the 14 competing teams.

Pirate Student Athletes Prominent on Dean's Lists for 22-23
August 07, 2023Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2022-23, achieving an overall 3.29 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a 3.19 overall GPA in the spring semester. A total of 108 Pirates achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher, earning mention on the Dean's List in the fall 2022 term while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 53 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In spring 2023, 110 VC student athletes were named on the Dean's List with 45 posting perfect GPA's.

Pirate Golf Season Ends at SoCal Regionals
May 08, 2023The VC golf season came to a close Monday at the 36-hole Southern California Regionals at Industry Hills Golf Course in the City of Industry. Ventura carded a team score of 386-399, 785 to finish sixth in the 10-team event wit the top four teams advancing to next week's CCCAA State Finals. AJ Ryland was the low man for the Pirates with a 75, 79, 154 to finish in 19th place overall out of 67 competitors.

VC Golf 4th at WSC Finals, Qualifies for SoCal's
April 24, 2023The Ventura College golf team did not have its best day Monday at Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo at the Western State Conference Championships. The Pirates shot a 401-398, 799 to finish fourth in the 36-hole event but still held off Glendale and Citrus to finish third in the final conference standings, qualifying the team for the SoCal Regionals on May 8. Jonas Slattum was the top Pirate on the day in a tie for 13th overall.

April 17, 2023The Ventura College golf team carded a team score of 397 to place third Monday at the make-up Western State Conference No. 3 at Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta. AJ Ryland shot a 4-over 76 to pace the Pirates, finishing in a tie for second overall. Elijah Delsi tied for ninth individually with a 6-over 78.

Pirates Claim First WSC Victory of the Season
April 10, 2023All it took was a little home cooking, hosted by another team. The Pirates' golf team claimed their first victory of the season in Western State Conference play Monday at the event hosted by College of the Canyons at Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventrua. AJ Ryland shot a 2-over 74 to tie for second individually in leading VC to victory. Nathan Long recorded a 5-over 78 to tie for sixth and Zack Garboski carded a 79, tying for 12th. Ventura posted a team score of 390, two shots ahead of previously unbeaten Canyons.

April 03, 2023The Pirate golf team faced difficult scoring conditions at Rio Bravo Country Club in Bakersfield Monday and came out with a team score of 403, good for fourth place in the Western State Conference event hosted by Bakersfield College. Jonas Slattum led Ventura with a 7-over 79 to tie for eighth place individually on the day and Martin Alvarez tied for 13th with an 80.

March 27, 2023The Pirate golf team posted a team score of 399 to finish fifth Monday at the Western State Conference event hosted by Citrus at the San Dimas Canyon Golf Course. AJ Ryland was the low man for the Pirates carding a 5-over 77 to tie for 10th place overall.

March 13, 2023After a disappointing performance a week ago, the Pirate golf team rebounded nicely, placing third at the Western State Conference event at Antelope Valley Country Club Monday. The Pirates posted a team score of 395, coming behind league-leading Canyons at 372 and just behind Santa Barbara with a 302. Zack Garboski led Ventura with a 3-over 75 to tie for fourth individually while AJ Ryland was tied for seventh with a 5-over 77.

March 06, 2023The VC golf team found difficulty in carding low scores Monday, finishing sixth of eight teams at he Western State Conference No. 4 event hosted by Allan Hancock College at Santa Maria Country Club. The Pirates turned a team score of 412, led by AJ Ryland's 5-over 77 and Zack Garboski's 7-over 79.

February 27, 2023The VC golf team battled low temperatures and a cold rain Monday, carding a respectable team score of 406 at the Riverside City College Invitational at the Victoria Country Club. The Pirates tied for 11th among the 16 participating schools, including some of Southern California's best teams. Joshua Calderon was the low man for Ventura with a 7-over par 79.

February 13, 2023The Pirates' golf team placed fourth of eight teams Monday at the Western State Conference No. 2 event hosted by Ventura at the River Ridge Victoria Lakes Golf Course in Oxnard. The Pirates totaled a team score of 401, three shots behind Citrus and two ahead of Bakersfield. Canyons and Santa Barbara finished 1-2 for the second straight week. Elijah Delsi and Nathan Long led VC, each shooting a 6-over 78.

February 06, 2023AJ Ryland shot a 2-over 73 at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale Monday to claim medalist honors, and the Pirates' men's golf team carded a team score of 403 to claim third place at the Western State Conference No. 1 event. VC came in 17 strokes behind first place Canyons and 12 behind Santa Barbara while finishing six strokes ahead of host Glendale. Ventura's Elijah Delsi turned in a 6-over 78 to tie for fifth place overall.

VC Golf Finishes 6th in Season Opener at La Purisma GC
January 30, 2023The Ventura College golf team battled difficult conditions Monday, finishing in the middle of a 12-team field at the Pt. Conception Open at La Purisma Golf Club in Lompoc. The Pirates turned in a team score of 433 to finish sixth overall. Nathan Long carded an 81 to lead Ventura to place 13th individually, and AJ Ryland shot an 85. Saddleback went low in the team standings with a 395 to claim the team title and Desert came in second with a 409. Western State Conference foe Glendale was third with a 413.

Pirate Student Athletes Strong in the Classroom
August 19, 2022Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in 2021-22, achieving an overall 3.26 grade point average in the fall and following that up with a solid 3.19 overall GPA in the spring. A total of 123 Pirates earned Dean's List honors in the fall of 2021 with a 3.5 GPA or better while taking in 12 or more units of study, with 51 student athletes recording a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the spring, 112 VC student athletes were featured on the Dean's List with 41 posting perfect GPA's.

Pirates Finish Strong at CCCAA State Championships
May 16, 2022The VC golf team posted season-best round in the afternoon with a 2-over 362, but it was not enough to overcome a sluggish morning round as the Pirates finished sixth at the CCCAA State Championships at Soboba Springs Golf Course in San Jacinto Monday. Ventura posted a 383-362, 745 in the final event of he season. Individually, Evan Colborn earned All-State honors with a 1-under par 74-69, 143 to finish in a tie for sixth place, earning his All-State nod in a card off. Steen Zeman shot a 73-70, 143 to also tie for sixth place overall.

VC 4th at SoCal Regionals, Qualifies for State
May 09, 2022The Pirate golf team shot a 367-375, 742 Monday at Ventura's Olivas Links Golf Course Monday to place fourth at the Southern California regional Championships, qualifying as a team for the CCCAA State Championships next week. Nicholas Burns fired a 4-under 67-73, 240 to finish second overall while Steen Zeman was tied for fourth with a 1-under 74-69, 243. Both were named to the All-Southern California Team.

Zeman Medalist, VC Golf Claims Second Overall in WSC Championships
April 25, 2022Ventura's Steen Zeman shot a 2-under par 70-72, 142 Monday at the Western State Conference Championships at Alisal River Golf Course in Solvang to claim individual medalist honors by three strokes, locking up the Most Valuable Player honors for the season. The Pirate team, meanwhile, posted a 369-367, 736 to wrap up the runner-up position in the WSC standings to advance to the SoCal Regionals in two weeks.

April 18, 2022The Pirate golf team finished a strong second place again on Monday, carding a team score of 374 at the Western State Conference No. 7 event at Santa Maria Country Club hosted by Allan Hancock College. Steen Zeman posted a 3-under 69 to claim medalist honors, his eighth Top-10 finish in nine WSC matches this season. Nicholas Burns, meanwhile tied for second with a 1-under 71.
