Women's Basketball No. 7 Nationally on WBCA Academic Honor Roll
July 18, 2015For the 11th time in the past 12 seasons, the VC women's basketball team has earned recognition on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top 25 presented by AT&T. In 2014-15, the Pirates earned a No. 7-ranking on the national list for community and junior colleges with a team-record 3.405 overall GPA. VC was the only team from California on the list. -
Monique Taylor '02 Set for Induction to State Coach's Hall of Fame
March 11, 2015Distinguished Ventura College alumna Monique Taylor will be honored Friday night by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association with induction into the organizations' Hall of Fame. Taylor is a 2002 graduate of Ventura College and a 2010 inductee into the Ventura College Pirate Athletic Hall of Fame. -
Ending Not Sweet for Pirates in Playoff Loss
March 04, 2015Advancing to the state "Sweet 16" for the 21st time in coach Ned Mircetic's 25-year tenure as head coach of the Ventura College women's basketball team did not have a sweet ending Wednesday, as the No. 4-seeded Pirates fell 69-47 to No. 5 Palomar in the CCCAA SoCal Regional Semifinals. -
Aubri Smith Named First-Team All-State
March 03, 2015Ventura College point guard Aubri Smith has been named first-team All-State by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The 5-foot-2 freshman from Buena High School has averaged 11.0 points, 5.7 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game for the Pirates, who posted a 25-5 regular season record. -
Pirates to Host Comets in CCCAA SoCal Semifinal

Pirates Advance in SoCal Regionals, 67-60 Over Fullerton
February 27, 2015A defensive struggle turned into a shootout Friday night as No. 4-seeded Ventrua defeated No. 13 Fullerton 67-60 in the opening round of the CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoffs at the Athletic Event Center. Brooke Zamora led the Pirates with 15 points and seven rebounds while Aubri Smith netted 13 points with six assists and five steals. -
Women's Basketball Earns No. 4 Seed in CCCAA SoCal Regionals
February 24, 2015The road to Cerritos and the state Final Four begins in earnest this week as the Ventura College women's basketball team was seeded No. 4 in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs Monday. The Pirates will open the playoffs on Friday Feb. 27 at home against No. 13-seed Fullerton College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm. -
Aubri Smith, Mircetic Headline WSC Post-Season Awards
February 23, 2015Freshman point guard Aubri Smith was named the 2015 Western State Conference North Division Most Valuable Player Sunday while head coach Ned Mircetic was named Coach of the Year in voting by the conference coaches Sunday. Makenna Murray, Micalea Pericone-Kapp, Carolyn Ruffino and Brooke Zamora also earned first-team All-WSC honors. -
Pirates Rally to Defeat Moorpark in Overtime
February 21, 2015Pirate reserve Carolyn Ruffino was forced into extra duty. With an injury to point guard Aubri Smith, Ruffino played heavy minutes, leading a late rally with eight consecutive points during one stretch, as VC scored the final eight points in regulation to send the game to overtime, where they defeated visiting Moorpark 62-54 in the regular season finale for both teams. -
Pirates Return to Oxnard With Big Win
February 18, 2015In its first game at the Condor's Nest in three years, the Pirates' women's basketball team returned in a big way with a solid 90-44 win over host Oxnard Wednesday night. Aubri Smith and Brooke Zamora led VC with 16 and 15 points, respectively, as Ventura clinched outright their 25th straight conference championship. -
Pirates Secure "25-Peat" With Win at Santa Barbara
February 14, 2015Nearly 24 years to the day after clinching a tie for the Western State Conference title in 1991, head coach Ned Mircetic's first season at the helm of the Pirates' women's basketball team, VC 's 63-47 win at Santa Barbara on Saturday clinched at least a share of Ventrua's 25th straight conference title, known at VC as a "25-Peat". -
Pirates Battle Brahmas and Breast Cancer Wednesday Night
February 11, 2015The VC women's basketball team hosted Pierce College Wednesday night in their eighth annual Ribbons Of Life Breast Cancer Awareness Game. The Pirates defeated the Brahmas 72-34 for their 15th consecutive victory, and helped raise $3,970, including $2,007 in a silent auction held during the game, for the Ribbons of Life Breast Cancer Foundation of Ventura. -
Women's Basketball Honors "Favorite Teachers"
February 07, 2015Each year, every member of the sophomore class of the Ventura College women’s basketball team selects a “Favorite Teacher” based on their own personal criteria. 2014-15 was the 10th year in which the team has honored their favorite teachers, and 52 awards have been presented, including the 2015 class of honorees. -
Strong Second Half Lifts Pirates to Big Win
February 07, 2015After starting the game shooting 3-17 early, the Pirates' women's basketball team hit 56 percent of their shots in the second half to rout the Allan Hancock Bulldogs 75-43 Saturday night at the Athletic Event Center. Brooke Zamora scored 16 points with seven rebounds to lead four Pirates in double-figures on the night. -
Aubri Smith, Pericone-Kapp Propel Pirates into Driver's Seat
January 31, 2015Aubri Smith nearly posted a triple-double and Micaela Pericone-Kapp nailed six 3-pointers to lead the VC women's basketball team to a 64-59 victory at Cuesta College Saturday night. With the win, the Pirates (20-5, 7-0) secure the seat belt in the driver's seat in the Western State Conference North Division race and kick the Cougars out of the shotgun chair. -
VC Turns Back Moorpark in Another Close Contest
January 28, 2015Raider Pavilion has been the site for numerous close calls over the years for the Ventura College women's basketball team. Wednesday night's game was another one as the guests came from behind in the final two minutes after losing an 11-point lead with 11 minutes remaining to take home a 60-57 victory over the Raiders. -
Cagers Welcome Back Condors With Big Win
January 24, 2015It had been nearly three years since the VC women's basketball team had played Oxnard College after the team had been cut by OC due to budget constraints in 2012. Saturday night the Condors, their program restored, visited the Athletic Event Center for the first time since and the Pirates welcomed them back with a 76-35 VC win Saturday night. -
Women's Basketball Makes it 10 Straight Victories
January 21, 2015Even though the play may not have been the best , at times, the Pirates' women's basketball team made it 10 straight wins with a 71-27 triumph over Santa Barbara Wednesday night at the Athletic Event Center. Carolyn Ruffino came off the bench to pace VC with 18 points while Brooke Zamora added 14 for VC (17-5, 4-0). -
Pirates Make Easy Work of Brahmas in Road Victory
January 17, 2015The improvement seems to be continuing. The Pirates shot a season-best 48 percent from the floor, hitting nine 3-pointers in the process of easily handling Pierce College 80-43 Saturday night in Woodland Hills. Point guard Aubri Smith had another solid outing with 22 points on 10-13 shooting, 10 assists, four rebounds and two steals for VC (16-5, 3-0). -

January 14, 2015The charge all season has been to get a little better each and every day, each and every game. The Ventura College women's basketball team lived up to that goal Wednesday night in routing the host Allan Hancock Bulldogs 77-42 in Santa Maria. Micaela Pericone-Kapp led the way with 20 points for the Pirates (15-5, 2-0). -

January 07, 2015In a battle of two conference front runners, the VC women's basketball team defeated Cuesta 61-50 Wednesday night at the Athletic Event Center in the Western State Conference opener for both teams. Brooke Zamora led the Pirates (14-5, 1-0) with 17 points and Makenna Murray added 10 in the victory. -

Pirates Rally For One-Point Win, Optimist Tourney Title
December 30, 2014The VC women's basketball team rallied from five points down with 2:39 remaining in the game to take a 43-42 win over San Bernardino Valley in the championship game of the VC-Optimist Club Holiday Tournament Tuesday at the Athletic Event Center. Brooke Zamora's offensive rebound and putback as the shot clock expired with 30.2 seconds on the game clock was the difference maker for the Pirates (13-5). -
Pirates Come Through With Big Win at Optimist Tourney
December 29, 2014Behind strong point guard play from Aubri Smith, the Pirates' women's basketball team built a lead and withstood a physical onslaught from a talented El Camino team down the stretch Monday night in the semifinals of the VC-Optimist Club Holiday Tournament. VC (12-5) prevailed 66-56, handing the Warriors just their third loss on the season. -

December 28, 2014Progress is slow, painfully slow at times. But it appears the Ventura College women's basketball team is making progress, as shown Sunday in their 72-47 win over Southwestern College in the opening round of the VC-Optimist Club Holiday Tournament. Carolyn Ruffino had a career-high 18 points and Micaela Pericone-Kapp followed with 17 points and five steals in the victory. -
WBB Continues Rise With Victory Over Long Beach
December 20, 2014Long Beach and Ventura are two of the state's heavyweights, both looking to rise to the level that led them to a Regional Final meeting a year ago. The Pirates won the battle last year, and topped the Vikings again Saturday night with a 53-49 victory at the Athletic Event Center. Makenna Murray was tops for VC (10-5) with 16 points and six rebounds on the night. -

Cagers Take Third Over LA Valley at Russell Classic
December 14, 2014The VC women's basketball team operates under a charge to "improve a little bit every day." They did just that Sunday, improving over their performances from the previous two days, taking third place at the LA Valley-Russell Classic. The Pirates (8-5) used solid defense and stingy ball security on offense to take a 61-49 decision fro the host Monarchs. -
VC Drops Decision to Fullerton in Russell Classic Semifinal
December 13, 2014The Pirate odessy continued on Saturday in the semifinals of the LA Valley-Russell Classic, with VC dropping a 57-50 decision to Fullerton College. For the fourth time in the past five outings, VC was stone cold at the outset, and for the second night in a row, the team turned in a below average shooting performance for 20 minutes of the game. -
Women's Basketball Struggles Continue Despite Win
December 12, 2014The VC women's basketball team continues to search for its identity, struggling offensively Friday in their 57-51 win over Grossmont in the opening round of the LA Valley Russell Classic.The Pirates (7-4) shot just 17 percent from the floor in the first half, and was just 1-22 from 3-point range for the game, but found a way to defeat the Griffins.
