Victoria Maciel led four Pirates in double figures with 17 points as the Ventura College women's basketball team raced past Oxnard 70-38 Saturday afternoon in a road Western State Conference North Division match-up. The redshirt freshman also had five rebounds and handed out five assists in leading VC (18-7, 3-0) to their eighth victory in the last nine games. LaDaesha Merriweather posted her third double-double in four outings with 14 points and 11 boards.
Maciel opened the game with a three before the Condors scored six unanswered to take an early lead. The Pirates soon tied things up, however, and a triple from Cece Quintino opened up a 15-7 advantage midway through the first period. The runaway continued from there as VC led 23-8 at the end of the quarter.
The Pirates continued to build their advantage throughout the second period, leading 38-17 at intermission.
Ventura expanded the advantage in the third quarter, outscoring the Condors 23-9 to hold a 61-26 lead at the quarter break, before settling in for the 70-38 final count.
Quintino finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists on the night while Madison Cvijanovich netted 10 points. Robin Prince was a beast on the boards pulling in 12 rebounds.
