Kyleesha Green produced on of the best games in her career with 19 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and a steal to lead the Pirates to an easy 85-40 win over Cuesta in San Luis Obispo Wednesday night. Katie Campbell also had a great fantasy basketball night with 16 points, eight boards, six assists, four blocks and three steals in the victory.
It took just one pass and 11 seconds for the Pirates (22-5, 7-0) to jump ahead in the game. Campbell chased down the opening tip and hit an open Rhiana Dougan on the right wing, who cashed in the 3-pointer. Green drove to the hoop for a lay-up and nailed a triple to make it 9-2 barely three minutes in. Dougan and Campbell splashed back-to-back shots from range extending the advantage to 16-4 at the 4:59 mark as Cuesta called timeout. VC continued the onslaught with two more drives from Green and a touchdown pass from Campbell to Dougan as Ventura led 28-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Green continued her solid play in the second quarter, hitting her first seven shots of the game, and the Ventura bench got into the act in with buckets from Celeste Salazar and Christina Gonzalez. VC led the Cougars 40-21 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Pirates added to their lead with a triple and a pair of pull-ups by Dougan, a bank shot from Green and a drive from Campbell. Ventura led 53-23 four minutes into the second half, and Davina Del Castillo got into the act inside to continue the run. Campbell hit a 30-footer at the buzzer to give VC a 71-30 advantage at the quarter break.
In the final period, the Pirate reserves played a key role, and Simone Lewis took full advantage with 10 points in the quarter as VC rolled to the 85-40 victory.
Dougan chipped in 16 points on the night while Del Castillo netted 15 points with seven rebounds. Sienna Brown pulled down a team-high 14 boards for VC.
The Pirates next travel to Moorpark on Saturday Feb. 11. Tip-off against the raiders is scheduled for 3:00 pm and the game can be seen live on the VC Sports Network.
