The road to Cerritos and the state Final Four begins in earnest this week as the Ventura College women's basketball team was seeded No. 4 in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs Monday. The Pirates (25-5) will open the playoffs on Friday Feb. 27 at home against No. 13-seed Fullerton College (16-11). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
This will be the third match-up between the Hornets and Pirates this season. FC prevailed in each of the previous two meetings early in the year. Fullerton defeated Ventura 72-58 in VC's season opener at the Glendale Tournament on Nov. 21, and then repeated the result, 57-50 on Dec. 13 in the semifinals of the LA Valley Tournament. The match-up is also a repeat of the 2010 State Championship game where VC prevailed 68-55 in Thousand Oaks.
The winner of Friday's contest at the Athletic Event Center will face the winner of No. 12 Long Beach at No. 5 Palomar. That game will be on Wednesday March 4. If VC wins Friday, that game will be in Ventura.
Doors will open to the AEC on Friday at 6:00 pm. Ticket prices, set by the CCCAA, will be $10 for general admission and $7 for identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children less than 12 years of age. Only CCCWBCA, CCCADA and CCCAA Life Passes will be honored.
There will be Ventura College women's basketball 25-Peat Western State Championship shirts available at the game for $15, along with other VC Athletics merchandise.
