
Ventura College's Santino Serralonga and Jinsei Tajima both advanced to the CCCAA state quarterfinals with a pair of singles victories Friday in The Ojai Tournament Friday. Meanwhile, Tajima and Philemon Jabin moved forward in the doubles draw with a Round of 32 win.
In the morning singles matches, Serralonga, the No. 2-seed from Southern California, defeated SoCal's No. 10-seed from College of the Desert in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
SoCal's No. 4-seeded Tajima advanced to the quarters with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over the NorCal No. 5-seed from American River College.
VC's Lucas Abreau also played in the Round of 16, dropping a 6-0, 6-1 decision to the NorCal No. 1-seed from American River.
In the afternoon's doubles play, SoCal No. 3-seed Tajima and Jabin won their Round of 32 match over a team from Orange Coast, 6-1, 6-2. They followed that with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over the SoCal No. 9-seed from Desert.
Serralonga and Valentino Oggero, SoCal's No. 11-seed, won 6-1, 6-1 against a team from Santa Barbara before falling to the SoCal No. 1-seed from Desert.
Abreau and Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo had their season come to an end in the Round of 32 against the No. 1-seed from NorCal's American River, 6-4, 6-4.
On Saturday, Serralonga opens play in the singles quarterfinals at 9:00 am against the SoCal No. 6-seed from Irvine Valley. Tajima also opens at 9:00 am against the SoCal No. 7-seed from Desert. The semifinal round is slated for 12:00 pm with all matches at the Ojai Athletic Club.
In doubles, Tajima and Jabin will play their quarterfinal match at 3:00 pm against the NorCal No. 2-seeded duo from American River at the Ojai Athletic Club.
