
Pirate tennis freshman Solal Cherqui has signed a scholarship to continue his academic and athletic careers at NCAA Division II St. Leo University in Florida. Cherqui, who hails from Paris, France, was VC's No. 1 singles player in 2018, posting an overall record of 16-5, 10-3 in dual competition. He also was 14-5 in double play with partner Rafael Dunan.
Cherqui earned first-team All-Western State Conference honors as the No. 1 singles player and in the No. 2 doubles slot. He fell in the WSC singles championship to teammate Priyank Soni to garner runner-up honors, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the CCCAA State Championships at The Ojai. In doubles, he and Dunan moved forward to the WSC semifinals, and also advanced to the state quarterfinals.
