Brown, Ramirez Lead All-WSC Honors
February 25, 2016Ventura College sophomore guard Elijah Brown was named the Western State Conference North Division Men's Basketball Player of the Year, while VC head coach Joey Ramirez shared the WSC North Coach of the Year award in voting by conference coaches last weekend. -
Brown Signs With Cal State San Bernardino
June 14, 2016All-State Ventura College guard Elijah Brown has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic careers at Cal State university San Bernardino next year.

Elijah Brown Named First-Team All-State
March 16, 2016Pirate basketball sophomore Elijah Brown has been named first-team All-State by the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association. The Western State Conference MVP was one of just 11 players from Southern California to receive the honor voted on by state coaches.

Men's Basketballs Season Ends With Road Playoff Loss
February 24, 2016The Ventura College men's basketball team had to wait to the last day of the season to earn their share of a Western State Conference North title and a playoff berth. Unfortunately, the Pirates season did not last beyond the opening round when they dropped a 66-59 contest to Cerritos. VC was paced offensively by standout Elijah Brown who scored 18 points. Jamal Lewis added in 18 points of his own.

Men's Basketball Back in the Post-Season
February 22, 2016Fresh off their co-championship in the Western State Conference North Division, the Ventrua College men's basketball team is headed to the post-season for the fourth time in the past five years. VC received the No. 20 seed and will travel to No. 13 Cerritos for a first round match up on Wednesday Feb. 24 at 7:00 pm.

Pirates Men's Basketball Clinches Share of WSC North Title
February 20, 2016Ventura College men's basketball team traveled to rival Oxnard College for their final regular season contest with a potential conference title on the line. VC was up for a tough test from the Condors, but prevailed with a 86-81 victory to earn their share of the Western State Conference North title. Jalon Wilson scored 20 points with Elijah Brown adding 20 points and Jacob Alonzo putting up 11 points.

Men's Basketball Rides Offense to First Place Tie in WSC
February 17, 2016The Ventura College men's basketball team found itself in the thick of the Western State Conference North title race entering the final two games of play. With a 109-63 win for the Pirates over Santa Barbara, VC positioned itself for a potential conference title. Topped by Timmy Garcia and his 26 points on 8-12 shooting from 3-point range the Pirates reached triple digits for the second time this season.

Pirates Overcome Slow First Half to Take Down AHC on the Road
February 10, 2016Ventura College men's basketball team finds itself in a wild conference title face with three teams all within one game of each other with four to play. VC stayed right in the race with a come from behind 80-70 road win over Allan Hancock. Elijah Brown topped the Pirates with 31 points as he continues his outstanding season. Cordel Hankerson added 14 second half points to help the Pirates rally for the win.

Pirates Basketball Drops Pierce to Pull Within One Game of First Place
February 06, 2016Returning to their home court the Ventura College men's basketball team collected a 76-68 victory over visiting LA Pierce. Elijah Brown topped the Pirates with 15 points and added in seven rebounds to go with six assists. Steven Bush returned from injury to put up 11 points. Trevor LaCount and Jalon Wilson both added in ten points with Wilso dishing out five assists.

So Cal No. 12-Ranked Pirates Unable to Hold off Moorpark
February 03, 2016Ventura College men's basketball team climbed to a So Cal No. 12 ranking following a big win over previously undefeated Cuesta. Taking on rival and So Cal No. 15 ranked Moorpark College the Pirates were unable to hold off a late Raider rally falling 73-70. Elijah Brown topped VC with 18 points, Trevor LaCount added 15 points and seven rebounds with Cordel Hankerson adding 13 points.

Men's Basketball Hands Cuesta Their First WSC Loss.
January 30, 2016Ventura College men's basketball went on the road to San Luis Obispo and brought home a vitally important Western State Conference North win defeating Cuesta College 82-76. Four different Pirates scored in double digits topped by Elijah Brown with 34 points. Jalon Wilson and Jacob Alonzo both scored 12 points while Jamal Lewis added 11 points.

Men's Basketball Downs Condors to Remain in WSC Race
January 27, 2016So Cal No. 15-ranked Ventura College men's basketball team played host to rival Oxnard College and picked up a big 89-78 Western State Conference North win. Closing out the first trip through WSC play the win puts the Pirates right in the thick of the title race with six games to go. Steven Bush topped the Pirates with 21 points on seven 3-pointers. Elijah Brown remained hot with 17 points and seven assists. Trevor LaCount added 12 points of his own.

LaCount and Brown Carry Pirates to Win Over SBCC
January 23, 2016Traveling to Santa Barbara the Ventura College men's basketball team rode the shoulders of a pair of offensive performances to pick up a come from behind 96-91 victory. Elijah Brown who has twice gone for 30+ points this year went off from the field and dropped a career high 43 points in the win. Trevor LaCount added 22 points of his own. The pair accounted for 65 of the Pirates 96 total points.

PIrates Drop Bulldogs With Triple Digit Point Total
January 16, 2016Ventura College men's basketball went on a tear offensively putting up triple digits in a 100-86 over visiting Allan Hancock College. Ventura has been in the 90 point range in four games this season, but this was the first time they reached triple digits for the 2015-16 campaign. The win was a combined team effort and sets the Pirates up for their final two games in the first trip through conference.

Men's Basketball Downs Pierce for Conference Win.
January 13, 2016Coming off a pair of tough defeats to ranked opponents to open Western State Conference North play the Ventura College men's basketball team rebounded to down Los Angeles Pierce 95-90. Jamal Lewis topped the Pirates offense with 19 points. Jacob Alonzo followed close behind him scoring 18 in the win.

January 09, 2016In a battle of ranked teams the So Cal No. 15-ranked Ventura College men's basketball team traveled to face off with So Cal No. 8-ranked Moorpark College and fell 84-79. VC star Elijah Brown poured in 31 points for the game, his second 30+ point performance of the season while pulling down six rebounds and dishing out three assists.

Men's Basketball Falls in Conference Opener to Cuesta
January 06, 2016Ventura College men's basketball team opened Western State Conference North play with a home match up against the Cuesta Cougars falling 67-65. Elijah Brown accounted for 25 of the Pirates points while Jalon Wilson added 12 with Timmy Garcia putting in 11 points. Wilson dished out five assists with Brown picking up four of his own.

Men's Basketball Takes Down Riverside in Overtime
December 30, 2015Head Coach Joey Ramirez matched up against his former at Ventura College Phil Matthews and got the best of his mentor with an 88-84 overtime victory. Ventura saw four players score in double digits with Elijah Brown fronting the way with 24 points. Two Pirates scored in double digits off the bench with Jalon Wilson putting in 11 points and Vida Faniel adding 12 points.

Pirates Men's Basketball Takes Third Place at COS Tournament
December 20, 2015Taking on cross-county rival Oxnard College in the third place match-up Ventura College men's basketball team picked up at 91-83 victory. All-Tournament selection Elijah Brown put up 31 points in the win, his first 30+ point performance of the season. Two more Pirate starters scored in double digits with Jamal Lewis adding 11 points and Trevor LaCount scoring 10.

VC Men's Basketball Falls to COS in Tournament Semifinal
December 19, 2015Ventura college men's basketball faced off with tournament host College of Sequioas in the semifinals and fell 73-63. Elijah Brown paced the Pirates offense with 21 points, but the Pirates as a whole struggled offensively in the loss. Brown pulled down six rebounds for Ventura.

Men's Basketball Downs El Camino in Tournament Opener
December 18, 2015Following a tournament championship in the SBCC classic the Ventura College men's basketball team traveled to Visalia to take down El Camino 77-56. In the opener of the Kirby Mannon Pepsi/Wyndham Hotel Tournament the Pirates were topped by Jamal Lewis and his 19 points while Steven Bush added 16 points to the Pirates victory. Jalon Wilson dished out five assists for Ventura.

VC Men's Basketball Team Claims SBCC Tournament Title
December 12, 2015Elijah Brown was named MVP of the SBCC tournament with his 21 points, seven rebound, three assist and two steal performance as the Pirates downed the Vaqueros 80-71. The win capped the Pirates first tournament title of the season. Brown scored in double digits in each of the three VC wins. Three Ventura players scored in double digits.

Pirates Advance to SBCC Tournament Championship Game
December 11, 2015Steven Bush put up 21 points for the Ventura College men's basketball team as they downed Canada College 86-67 advancing to the championship game of the SBCC tournament. Bush was accurate from 3-point range hitting on seven of 11 attempts for his team high points. Elijah Brown added 18 points and dished out nine assists in the win.

Men's Basketball Opens SBCC Tournament With Win
December 10, 2015Timmy Garcia helped led the way for Ventura College men's basketball teams win over Palomar College 71-63. Garcia poured in a team high 20 points in the win and was one of three total Pirates to score in double figures. Jalon Wilson spearheaded the Pirate offensive attack with six assists in the game.

Men's Basketball Drops Game to Glendale
December 05, 2015Steven Bush and Elijah Brown each scored in double figures, but it would not be enough for Ventura College men's basketball who falls 76-63 to Glendale College. Bush scored 17 points while Brown put up 20 for Ventura. Vida Faniel pulled down nine rebounds for VC.

Pirate Men's Basketball Unable to Knockoff Undefeated ELAC
December 04, 2015Elijah Brown poured in 26 points for the Ventura College men's basketball team, but they were unable to overcome the undefeated Huskies of East Los Angeles College in a 89-84 defeat. Brown hauled in six rebounds as well, and was one of three Pirates to score in double digits.

November 24, 2015Ventura College men's basketball picked up an 89-79 win over Los Angeles Valley College in Van Nuys Tuesday night. The Pirates received stellar offensive contributions from several players, but Elijah Brown stood out with 21 points in the game. Steven Bush added nine points as he hit from 3-point range three times in the first half.

November 21, 2015Ventura College men's basketball dropped their consolation round match up with Long Beach City College 83-68. Ventura was paced by Vida Faniel who poured in 17 points with three other Pirates scoring in double digits. VC went 1-2 in the Irvine Valley Classic.

November 20, 2015Ventura College men's basketball took down Imperial Valley College 74-60 in the Irvine Valley Tournament. Elijah Brown topped the Pirates with 15 points while four other Pirates scored in double figures. Josh Watterson pulled down 11 rebounds in the win.

November 19, 2015Ventura College men's basketball team fell to Cerritos College 66-58 in the opener of the Irvine Valley Tournament. Elijah Brown carried the Pirate offensive attack with 20 points in the game to go with three rebounds and two steals. Jacob Alonzo contributed 12 points with six rebounds and two steals.
