Robert Hunt hit a pair of clutch free throws with no time on the clock to force overtime, but the VC men's basketball team managed just two charity tosses in the extra period, falling to Santa Monica College 93-84 Saturday in the Consolation Final of the Irvine Valley Classic. Vondel Faniel scored 21 points with 15 rebounds to lead Ventura (5-4).
In his first start of the season, Eric Davis had 16 points and seven rebounds, while Hunt also chipped in 16 points. Jamal Lewis came off the bench to contribute 10 points and eight assists.
The Pirates will next travel to Los Angeles Valley College on Monday Dec. 1 for a 6:00 pm tilt with the Monarchs.
