
Pirate basketball sophomore Elijah Brown has been named first-team All-State by the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association. The Western State Conference MVP was one of just 11 players from Southern California to receive the honor voted on by state coaches.
Brown, a product of Irvington High School in Newark, NJ, led the Pirates to a share of the WSC North Division championship for the second time in the past four years, the program's 20th title overall. VC also qualified for the post-season for the fourth time in the past five seasons.
Elijah led the Pirates scoring 20.8 points per game while playing in all 29 of VC's contests this season. He shot 50.0 percent from the floor on the year, including 36.6 percent from long range. He also made 80.7 percent of his free throw attempts. Additionally, Brown averaged 4.4 rebounds and 4.0 steals per outing.
