
Ventura College sophomore guard Elijah Brown was named the Western State Conference North Division Men's Basketball Player of the Year, while VC head coach Joey Ramirez shared the WSC North Coach of the Year award in voting by conference coaches last weekend.
Brown exploded as a sophomore during the 2015-2016 season, going from averaging 6.7 points per game as a freshman to averaging 20.9 points per game as a sophomore. Brown converted 50.5 percent of his shots from the field, and 37.6 percent of his shots from behind the 3-point line, while adding 4.1 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per contest.
Ramirez meanwhile helped lead the Pirates to their fourth post-season appearance in their last five seasons. Ventura shared the conference title with Moorpark, earning their 20th conference title overall and first since 2013.
Pirate sophomore Jalon Wilson also earned first-team All-WSC honors while sophomore Steven Busha nd freshman Trevor LaCount were named honorable mention all-conference.
