2019 Ventura College Volleyball Team News

  • Pirate Athletics Lists 83 4-Year Transfers for 2019-20
    August 31, 2020
    The Ventura College Athletic Department is pleased to report that they list 83 student athletes from 2019-20 who are slated to transfer to four-year institutions in the fall, as of August 31. Of those transfers, 60 plan on continuing their athletic careers at their new school, most of them with an athletic scholarship. The transferring student athletes will attend 58 different schools in 26 states around the country. 
  • 2019 VC Pirate Volleyball Review

    Entering the 2019 season, the Ventura College volleyball team had high expectations coming off the program's first Western State Conference title in 13 years the previous season. Those expectations were tempered by an incredibly difficult schedule which had the Pirates dropping seven non-conference matches, six to eventual playoff teams. The Pirates won nine of their final 10 matches of the season, however, to post an overall record of 13-9, 8-2 in the WSC North for a second place finish.
  • Perez, Gallagher, Wallet lead Spikers' Post-Season Awards

    For the second straight year, the Pirate volleyball team has the Western State Conference North Division Libero of the Year. Freshman Leslie Perez earned the honor in voting by the conference coaches last month, while head coach Brad Lyans was named WSC North Co-Coach of the Year. Outside hitter Morgan Gallagher was named first-team All-WSC, as was middle hitter Brooklyn Wallet. Four other Pirates were named second team or honorable mention all-conference.
  • Pirates Sweep Past Santa Barbara
    November 15, 2019
    The Pirate volleyball team will be heading to the post-season on a high note. In the regular season finale at the Athletic Event Center, Ventura (13-9, 8-2) defeated visiting Santa Barbara 25-22, 25-18, 25-18 to finish in second place in the Western State Conference North Division. Morgan Gallagher had 14 kills and 10 digs while Brooklyn Wallet had 12 kills and a .524 hitting percentage, sending the Pirates into the post-season for the third straight year and the fifth time i the past six seasons under head coach Brad Lyans.
  • Ventura Makes Quick Work of Visiting Pierce
    November 13, 2019
    The VC volleyball team didn't mess around Wednesday night, easily disposing of visiting Los Angeles Pierce College 25-9, 25-17, 25-10 at the Athletic Event Center. In a make-up match originally scheduled for Oct. 11, the Pirates swept through the Brahmas behind eight kills from Victoria Whitney and a six-kill, nine-dig, five-ace performance from Raphaella Rosales. The Pirates (12-9, 7-2) are locked into the runner-up spot of the Western State Conference North Division and a playoff berth appears imminent.
  • Volleyball Sweeps Cuesta, Moves Closer to Playoffs

    The Pirates' women's volleyball team had an outstanding effort Friday in sweeping visiting Cuesta 25-20, 25-21, 25-12 to move ever-closer to the program's third straight post-season appearance. Morgan Gallagher led the effort with 10 kills and 12 digs while Brooklyn Wallet had nine winners. Raphaella Rosales recorded eight kills, 11 digs and a pair of service aces for VC (11-9, 6-2) while Kassidy Wilson handed out 23 assists. Leslie Perez contributed 21 digs to lead the defense.
  • Spikers Down Brahmas in Four in Woodland Hills
    November 06, 2019
    The VC volleyball team traveled to Woodland Hills Wednesday to take on LA Pierce, defeating the Brahmas in four sets, 25-19, 25-17, 20-25, 25-12. Brooklyn Wallet had 14 kills with a hitting percentage of .407, and Morgan Gallagher also recorded 14 winners with 13 digs and five service aces in the Pirate victory, their sixth in the past seven outings. Kassidy Wilson handed out 25 assists and Leslie Perez had 28 digs and a 2.43 passer rating to lead Ventura (9-8, 5-2).
  • VC Sweeps LA Mission on the Road
    October 25, 2019
    The Pirate volleyball team traveled to San Fernando Friday evening, coming home with a 3-0 sweep over the Los Angeles Mission College Eagles, 25-18, 25-12, 25-20. Morgan Gallagher, Tatum Teel and Vanessa Ihrke all had five kills to lead the Pirates (9-9, 4-2) in their fourth victory in the past five outings. Kassidy Wilson handed out 11 assists and Leslie Perez recorded 16 digs in the win for VC.
  • Ventura Plays Well, Can't Get Past Moorpark
    October 18, 2019
    The Pirate volleyball team played well Friday night, but was not able to put away No. 3-ranked Moorpark, dropping a 25-23, 25-22, 25-16 decision to the Raiders at the Athletic Event Center. Raphaella Rosales had seven kills and 10 digs for Ventura (8-9, 3-2) and Morgan Gallagher also turned in seven kills with nine digs. Leslie Perez led the defense with 12 digs and Kassidy Wilson handed out 17 assists.
  • Spikers Claim Another Five-Set Marathon
    October 16, 2019
    For the fourth time this season, the Ventura College volleyball team played a match to the full five sets. On Wednesday in San Luis Obispo, VC evened its season record at 8-8, and evened its five-set record at 2-2 in a come-from-behind 24-26, 25-21, 24-26, 25-20,19-17 victory over Cuesta College. Morgan Gallagher recorded 21 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and an ace while Raphaella Rosales had 13 kills and 26 digs while passing with a 2.05 rating in the win.
  • History Becomes Footnote in Pirate Victory
    October 04, 2019
    The Pirate volleyball team was part of history on Friday night. Leading 1-0 at Santa Barbara City College, the Pirates and Vaqueros played an epic second set lasting over an hour, ultimately won by SBCC 45-43. The highest-scoring single set in CCCAA volleyball history became a footnote, however, when VC defeated the Vaqueros in the final two sets to claim a 25-20, 43-45, 25-23, 25-19 triumph. Morgan Gallagher had a great all around match with 22 kills, 12 digs, six service aces and a pair of blocks.
  • Spikers Sweep Visiting Los Angeles Mission

    The Ventura College volleyball team made quick work of Los Angeles Mission College, defeating the Eagles in three straight sets, 25-19, 25-16, 25-19, Wednesday at the Athletic Event Center. Vanessa Ihrke had seven kills to lead the balanced attack for Ventura (6-8, 1-1) and Tatum Teel had six kills. Nine different Pirates recorded winners in the match. Kassidy Wilson and Julia Stalker handed out 12 and 10 assists, respectively, and Raphaella Rosales led the defense with 17 digs.
  • Ventura Pulls Out 5-Set Victory Over No. 20 Butte
    September 27, 2019
    The Pirate volleyball team pulled out a much-needed five-set victory Friday night, defeating state No. 20-ranked Butte College, 26-28, 25-22, 25-18, 24-26, 16-14. The Pirates scored the final five points of the match, turning back three Roadrunner match points to secure the non-conference triumph. Morgan Gallagher recorded 19 kills and 12 digs while Brooklyn Wallet had 15 winners. Julia Stalker and Gabby Boado handed out 31 and 29 assists, respectively, for the Pirates (5-8, 0-1).
  • VC Falls in Conference Opener at Moorpark
    September 25, 2019
    The Pirate volleyball team opened their conference season with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 loss at rival Moorpark College on Wednesday night. Morgan Gallagher had nine kills to lead Ventura (4-8, 0-1) while Brooklyn Wallet recorded six winners. Kassidy Wilson had 16 assists, 10 digs and three services aces in the match.
  • Volleyball Falls to College of the Canyons in Four Sets
    September 20, 2019
    The Pirate volleyball team continued to search for its groove Friday night, hosting College of the Canyons at the Athletic Event Center. For a time it looked as if they had found it, leading in sets 1-0 and surviving a pair of set points to tie the score in the second at 25-25. But the Cougars prevailed in the set 29-27, and VC eventually dropped the match in four, 17-25, 29-27, 25-21, 25-14. Brooklyn Wallet led a total team effort with 13 kills while Raphaella Rosales and Vanessa Ihrke totaled nine and seven winners, respectively.
  • VC Falls at No. 8 Bakersfield
    September 18, 2019
    The Ventura College volleyball team has faced some stern challenges early this season. But none perhaps were as challenging as their trip to state No. 8-ranked Bakersfield College on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the Pirates dropped the straight-set match, 25-20, 25-12, 25-11. Morgan Gallagher led the way with six kills, eight digs and a pair of service aces while Tatum Teel had six winners and a .500 hitting percentage. Kassidy Wilson handed out 15 assists.
  • Pirates Take Two at Pasadena Quad
    September 13, 2019
    The Pirate volleyball team won a pair of matches Friday at the Pasadena Quad hosted at Citrus College in Glendora. VC (4-5) swept Antelope Valley 25-23, 25-11, 25-15 before defeating Citrus on their home court, 25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 25-19. Kassidy Wilson facilitated the offense with 37 assists on the day and Morgan Gallagher totaled 21 kills in the two contests. Raphaella Rosales anchored the defense with 34 digs for Ventura.
  • Ventura Drops Another Close 3-Set Match
    September 11, 2019
    The Ventura College volleyball team was unable to repeat their playoff magic of a year ago on their return to Orange Coast College on Wednesday evening. VC, which won a first-round playoff thriller in Costa Mesa last November, fell in a close straight-set contest, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21. Morgan Gallagher had five kills to lead Ventura while Gabby Boado handed out six assists. Gallagher, Raphaella Rosales and Tatiana Rodriguez each recorded four digs defensively.
  • Volleyball Rebounds in Nightcap of Pirate Quad
    September 06, 2019
    The Ventura College volleyball team rebounded in the nightcap of Friday's VC Pirate Classic Quad defeating Victor Valley 25-12, 25-12, 25-13 after falling to Imperial Valley earlier in the day at the Athletic Event Center. Morgan Gallagher led VC with 16 kills while Tatum Teel had 15 kills and six service aces on the day. Brooklyn Wallet recorded 11 point-winners while Leslie Perez anchored the defense with 49 digs in the two matches. Kassidy Wilson and Gabby Boado handed out 27 and 25 assists, respectively.
  • Volleyball Drops Second Straight Five-Set Marathon
    September 04, 2019
    After five long sets and 214 combined points, just four points separated the Ventura College and Pasadena City College volleyball teams Wednesday night at the Athletic Event Center. Unfortunately for the Pirates, they came up on the short end for the second straight match, falling to undefeated PCC 25-21, 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 10-15. Raphaella Rosales had another all-around performance with nine kills, two blocks, 22 digs and 12 service winners to help lead Ventura (1-3).
  • Volleyball Drops Heartbreaker in Five at Golden West
    August 30, 2019
    On the road for the first time in 2019, the VC volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker in five sets at Golden West College, 19-25, 30-28, 25-13, 13-25, 15-12. Brooklyn Wallet had another solid effort with 11 kills, hitting at a .500 clip, to go along with seven service aces and four blocks. Morgan Gallagher recorded 13 kills and five blocks in the match while Julia Stalker handed out 25 assists with 14 digs. Leslie Perez led the defense with 24 digs.
  • Spikers Split Twin Bill to Open Season
    August 28, 2019
    The Ventura College volleyball team split a pair of matches Wednesday at the Athletic Event Center to open the 2019 season. VC (1-1) swept Cuyamaca College 27-25, 25-12, 25-15 in the afternoon contest before falling to San Diego Mesa 25-19, 25-12, 25-22 in the nightcap. Brooklyn Wallet and Morgan Gallagher led the offense with 18 and 16 kills on the day, respectively, while Leslie Perez had 28 digs. Kassidy Wilson handed out 33 assists in the two matches.
