
Ranked No. 11 in SoCal and No. 18 in the state, Ventura College women's volleyball (14-3, 3-1) played host to Allan Hancock College Wednesday night. The Pirates collected a three-set sweep to pick up the win, 25-18, 25-10, 25-17. Paris Dosch collected 12 kills, four digs and one block. Mikayla Spears had 22 assists in the match.
Coming off a four set battle with State No.-1 ranked Los Angeles Pierce College in their last match, the Pirates started the night slow, falling behind 6-1 to AHC. The Pirates cut into the lead closing to within 11-9 when Tori Hiott rattled off eight straight points for a 17-12 VC led. The Bulldogs rallied into the Pirate led before VC closed out the opening set win 25-18.
Ventura came out firing on all cylinders in the second set, jumping out to a commanding 10-1 lead after just one server for the Pirates. VC dominated the set taking a 23-5 advantage late. The Bulldogs scored a few late points before the Pirates closed out the win 25-10.
In the third set, both teams traded leads early and often until VC broke through to go ahead 11-10. Jaimelene Salgado followed with four straight service winners to help the Pirates yo a 15-10 margin. Ventura controlled the rest of the set, closing out a dominant evening with a 25-17 victory completing the sweep.
Hiott picked up six aces on the night to go with five kills and nine digs. Brittney Mukhar collected nine kills to go with seven digs for the Pirates. Cassandra Lacanilao, the Ventura defensive specialist, added 14 digs on the night to led the Pirates.
Ventura will return to their home court on Friday Oct. 16 for a cross-county rivalry match up with Moorpark College. The match is set to start at 7:00 pm. On Wednesday Oct. 21 the Pirates will travel to take on SoCal No. 2 Santa Barbara City College in a 6:00 pm match.
