VOLLEYBALL: The Ventura College volleyball team opened up the 2013 season on the short end of a 25-12, 25-5, 25-13 decision Friday at Irvine Valley College. VC struggled in their first match under new head coach Brad Lyans, but the preseason No. 18-ranked Lasers had much to do with that. Kirra Drury led VC with seven kills and a .312 kill percentage while Jasmine Perez had seven assists.
Ventura will return to the court Friday Sept. 6 with a pair of matches at the LA Pierce Quad in Woodland Hills.
