VC alumna Adria (Sneed) Harris '97 Inducted into CCCWBCA HoF
March 16, 2025Ventura College women's basketball alumna Adria (Sneed) Harris '97 was inducted into the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Thursday at the CCCWBCA Banquet of Champions associated with the 3C2A State Elite Eight at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. The two-time state champion and two-time All-State selection becomes the fourth Pirate to be inducted into the state coaches' Hall of Fame. -
Coubal Saves Best for Last in Pirates' Finale
February 21, 2025VC sophomore Alexa Coubal saved her best for last Friday, posting the program's first-ever 30-20 double-double in Ventura's 90-27 victory over Oxnard in the season finale. The Thousand Oaks product scored 33 points on 16-18 shooting from the floor with 22 rebounds in the Pirate win. Sam McKenzie closed her VC career witth 22 points and 10 assists while Danielle Salazar scored 14 points with 13 boards. Milan Garcia also netted 14 points for the Pirates. -
Pirate Women Travel to Allan Hancock
February 19, 2025The VC women's basketball team traveled to Allan Hancock College Wednesday, leaving Santa Maria with a 55-47 setback against the Bulldogs. Sam McKenzie was the lone Pirate in double-figures with 18 points while Alexa Coubal netted eight points with 14 rebounds. Danielle Salazar scored nine points with eight boards in the contest. -
VC Women Drop Home Contest to Cuesta
February 15, 2025The Pirates' women's basketball team fell behind Cuesta early and could never recover in their 57-42 loss to the Cougars Saturday at the Athletic Event Center. Alexa Coubal was 9-10 at the free throw line, scoring 13 points with 14 rebounds and Danielle Salazar came off the bench to score 12 points. Sam McKenzie added 10 points, three assists and four steals in the game. -
Ventura Races Past Mission in Make-Up Game
February 10, 2025The Pirates' women's basketball team raced past Los Anglees Mission Monday 71-40 in a game rescheduled from Jan. 8. Sam McKenzie exploded for 25 points while Alexa Coubal netted 21 points with 10 rebounds. Aiyana Gonzalez pulled down a game-high 16 boards and Danielle Salazar added eight points off the bench for VC. -
Women's Basketball Fights for 40 minutes Against SBCC
February 08, 2025The VC women's basketball team fought for the full 40 minutes Saturday despite their 86-68 setback against Santa Barbara at the Athletic Event Center. Sam McKenzie led Ventura with 24 points, five rebounds and four steals and Alexa Coubal posted a double-dozen with 12 points and 12 boards along with four assists. Danielle Salazar netted 18 points, including five made 3-pointers. -
Ventura Drops Decision Against Moorpark
February 05, 2025The VC women's basketball team dropped an 89-55 decision to visiting Moorpark Wednesday evening at the Athletic Event Center. Alexa Coubal had a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Pirates while Sam McKenzie and Danielle Salazar netted 15 and 12 points, respectively. -
Women's Basketball Routs Mission, 71-35
February 01, 2025The Pirates' women's basketball team had four players score in double figures Saturday as VC routed Los Anglees Mission 71-35 in Sylmar. Aiyana Gonzalez had a season-high 17 points on 8-9 shooting from the floor and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Pirates. Danielle Salazar netted 13 points while Alexa Coubal had a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards. Charnelle Nichols also scored 11 in the Ventura triumph. -
Pirates Bounce Back to Rout Oxnard
January 29, 2025The VC women's basketball team bounced back in a big way Wednesday, routing Oxnard 93-29 at the Condors' Nest. Milan Garcia led three players with 20-plus points with 26 while Sam McKenzie and Alexa Coubal totaled 23 and 20 points, respectively. Coubal added 18 rebounds and Aiyana Gonzalez pulled down 19 boards with eight points. Charnelle Nichols added 11 points in the victory. -
Women's Basketball Drops Decision Against AHC
January 25, 2025The VC women's basketball team dropped a Western State Conference contest against Allan Hancock College Saturday at the Athletic Event Center, 47-31. Sam McKenzie and Alexa Coubal each scored eight points to lead the Pirates and Coubal also pulled down 15 rebounds. Charnelle Nichols had six boards and Aiyana Gonzalez grabbed five caroms with two assists and three steals. Milan Garcia handed out five assists for VC. -
Pirate Women Victorious at Cuesta
January 22, 2025The VC women's basketball team captured a 69-63 victory in their longest roadtrip of the season in San Luis Obispo against Cuesta. Sam McKenzie led the effort with 18 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, ana Alanna Topete netted 17. Milan Garcia totaled 14 points in the win and Alexa Coubal scored 14 for the Pirates. -
Coubal's 20 and 8 Not Enough in Pirate Setback
January 15, 2025VC sophomore Alexa Coubal scored 20 points on 7-9 shooting from the floor and a 6-8 performance at the free throw line, and she added eight rebounds, but it was not enough as the Pirates' women's basketball team fell short at Santa Barbara Wednesday, 70-55. Sam McKenzie netted 17 points with eight boards while Danielle Salazar and Alanna Topete scored eight and seven points, respectively. -
Women's & Men's Basketball Location Changed for Jan. 15, Feb. 8
January 14, 2025Due to uncertainty surrounding ongoing Public Safety Power Shutoffs and anticipated high winds, the home women's and men's basketball games scheduled for Wednesday Jan. 15 have been moved to Santa Barbara. SBCC will travel to Ventura on Saturday Feb. 8. -
Ventura Drops WSC Opener
January 11, 2025The VC women's basketball team dropped its Western State Conference North Division Opener at Moorpark Saturday afternoon. Sam McKenzie led the Pirate effort with 10 points and four assists while Alanna Topete netted nine. Alexa Coubal scored eight points with 14 rebounds in the 100-47 setback to the Raiders. -
Ventura Defeats El Camino to Close Crossover
December 28, 2024The Pirates' women's basketball team scored a 53-30 victory over El Camino Saturday to conclude the VC Crossover at the Athletic Event Center. Sam McKenzie led the way with 19 points, 15 in the first half, while Alexa Coubal netted eight, including a 6-6 performance at the free throw line. Alanna Topete and Charnelle Nichols each scored six points in the triumph. -
Pirates Fight to End Against Irvine Valley
December 27, 2024The Ventura College women's basketball team held a 26-23 lead at halftime but could not hold on, dropping a 51-48 decision to Irvine Valley on the opening night of the VC Crossover at the Athletic Event Center. Sam McKenzie and Milan Garcia each netted an even dozen for the Pirates and Alexa Coubal contributed 11 in the game. -
Ventura Women Top Foothill With Big Win
December 20, 2024For the second night in a row. the Pirates' women's basketball team produced a big home win, easily defeating Foothill College 86-57 Friday. Milan Garcia hit five more three's in a 23-point performance and Alexa Coubal had a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds. Sam McKenzie also netted 17 with eight boards and five assists and Charnelle Nichols totaled 12 points in the victory. Alanna Topete reached double-figures in assists with 11 dimes to go along with eight points. Danielle Salazar added nine points off the bench. -
Women's Basketball Routs LA Harbor
December 19, 2024The VC women's basketball team returned home Thursday with a 94-27 rout of Los Angeles Harbor. Milan Garcia hit five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 22 points and Charnelle Nichols was 9-15 from the floor for 20 points. Alexa Coubal and Sam McKenzie totaled 16 and 12 points, respectively and Alanna Topete posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 assists. -
Pirates Drop Tourney Finale to San Francisco
December 14, 2024The Pirates' women's basketball team fought hard, but ultimately dropped their finale of the Buddy's All-Star Classic 52-45 against San Francisco. Sam McKenzie netted 20 in the effort in the game at LA Valley and Charnelle Nichols scored eight. Alexa Coubal recorded seven points and 14 rebounds and Alanna Topete also tallied seven with five assists and three steals. -
VC Women Fall in LAVC Tournament
December 13, 2024The Pirates' women's basketball team dropped a 68-46 decision against San Diego Mesa Friday on the second day of the Buddy's All-Star Classic at LA Valley. Sam McKenzie netted 14 points with six rebounds and a pair of assists while Alexa Coubal scored 12 points with seven boards. Alanna Topete handed out six assists. -

December 12, 2024Pirate sophomore Sam McKenzie scored 12 points to lead the Pirates' women's basketball team Thursday as they dropped a 54-41 decision at Los Angeles Valley in the opening round of the LAVC Buddy's All-Star Classic. Alexa Coubal added eight points and 12 rebounds to the effort for Ventura and Milan Garcia netted seven. -

December 03, 2024The VC women's basketball team came up short at Long Beach Tuesday, dropping a 57-46 decision to the Vikings. Sam McKenzie led the Pirates with 13 points and three steals while Devin Feiereisen added 11 points wit hthree thefts in the contest. Alexa Coubal contributed seven points and eight rebounds and Alana Topete tallied five points with three steals and six assists. -
Pirates Run Away from Lemoore in Home Opener
November 22, 2024The VC women's basketball team ran away from visiting Lemoore College Friday in an 81-49 victory over the Eagles at the Athletic Event Center. Charnelle Nichols scored a game-high 17 points to lead five Pirates in double figures. Sam McKenzie finished with 16 points while Devin Feiereisen netted 11. Alexa Coubal had a double double of 10 poionts with 17 rebounds and Alanna Topete scored 11 with 11 assists. -

November 10, 2024The Pirates' women's basketball team dropped the Wild West Shootout finale Sunday to host West Los Angeles 66-58. Sam McKenzie scored 18 points wit hthree assists to lead VC and Devin Feiereisen scored 14. Alexa Coubal recorded 11 points with 11 rebounds while Charnelle Nichols netted nine points. -
VC Women Earn First Victory of Season
November 09, 2024The Pirates' women's basketbal team earned their first victory of the young season with a 68-45 decision over Taft at the Wild West Shootout at West Los Angeles College in Culver City. Alexa Coubal posted a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds and Alanna Topete scored 17 points and handed out three assists. Sam McKenzie and Devin Feiereisen netted 15 and 12 points, respectively, for VC (1-1). -
Pirates Fall in Season Opener at Shootout
November 08, 2024The VC women's basketball team dropped its 2024-25 season opener Friday, falling 66-41 to Irvine Valley College at the Wild West Shootout at West Los Angeles College in Culver City. Alanna Topete scored 12 points in her VC debut to lead the way while sophomore Sam McKenzie netted 11 points and pulled in a team-best five rebounds. Devin Feiereisen scored seven and grabbed four boards. -
VC Athletics 13th in California in NATYCAA Cup
August 12, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department claimed its 14th Top-13 finish in 19 years, placing 13th in California in the 2023-24 all-sports National Association of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup standings. Pirate Athletics totaled 106 points overall, besting its 105.5 points earned in 2022-23 that placed 12th. Ventura was also 17th for the second straight year in the Daktronics Cup Standings with two-years schools from California, Oregon and Washington. -
VC Lists 70 transfers to 4-Year Schools
August 01, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department is proud to announce the transfer of 71 student athletes to four-year schools following their time with the Pirates. 48 of those transfers plan to continue their sport with 34 earning athletic scholarships. The VC class of 2024 will transfer to 48 different schools in 19 different states across the country. Additionally, 17 of the Pirate alumni have earned academic scholarships at their new schools. -
Coubal, LeBrun and McKenzie Named All-WSC
March 19, 2024The VC women's basketball team had a trio of players named to the All-Western State Conference North Division team in voting by the conference coaches following the regular season. Freshmen Alexa Coubal, Daphné LeBrun and Sam McKenzie all earned first team All-WSC honors for the Pirates. -
Women's Basketball Falls in State Sweet 16
March 09, 2024The Pirates' women's basketball team fell in the 3C2A Southern California Regional Final Saturday 67-50 at Moorpark. Alexa Coubal had another excellent outing with a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double and Elena Ferrara recorded a season-best 18 points including a 4-5 night from beyond the 3-point line. Mykah Johnson added six points off the bench and Tiernan Phillips pulled down seven boards in the game.
