Pirates Bounce Back to Rout OxnardJanuary 29, 2025The VC women's basketball team bounced back in a big way Wednesday, routing Oxnard 93-29 at the Condors' Nest. Milan Garcia led three players with 20-plus points with 26 while Sam McKenzie and Alexa Coubal totaled 23 and 20 points, respectively. Coubal added 18 rebounds and Aiyana Gonzalez pulled down 19 boards with eight points. Charnelle Nichols added 11 points in the victory.

Women's Basketball Drops Decision Against AHCJanuary 25, 2025The VC women's basketball team dropped a Western State Conference contest against Allan Hancock College Saturday at the Athletic Event Center, 47-31. Sam McKenzie and Alexa Coubal each scored eight points to lead the Pirates and Coubal also pulled down 15 rebounds. Charnelle Nichols had six boards and Aiyana Gonzalez grabbed five caroms with two assists and three steals. Milan Garcia handed out five assists for VC.

Pirate Women Victorious at CuestaJanuary 22, 2025The VC women's basketball team captured a 69-63 victory in their longest roadtrip of the season in San Luis Obispo against Cuesta. Sam McKenzie led the effort with 18 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, ana Alanna Topete netted 17. Milan Garcia totaled 14 points in the win and Alexa Coubal scored 14 for the Pirates.

Coubal's 20 and 8 Not Enough in Pirate SetbackJanuary 15, 2025VC sophomore Alexa Coubal scored 20 points on 7-9 shooting from the floor and a 6-8 performance at the free throw line, and she added eight rebounds, but it was not enough as the Pirates' women's basketball team fell short at Santa Barbara Wednesday, 70-55. Sam McKenzie netted 17 points with eight boards while Danielle Salazar and Alanna Topete scored eight and seven points, respectively.

Women's & Men's Basketball Location Changed for Jan. 15, Feb. 8January 14, 2025Due to uncertainty surrounding ongoing Public Safety Power Shutoffs and anticipated high winds, the home women's and men's basketball games scheduled for Wednesday Jan. 15 have been moved to Santa Barbara. SBCC will travel to Ventura on Saturday Feb. 8.

Ventura Drops WSC OpenerJanuary 11, 2025The VC women's basketball team dropped its Western State Conference North Division Opener at Moorpark Saturday afternoon. Sam McKenzie led the Pirate effort with 10 points and four assists while Alanna Topete netted nine. Alexa Coubal scored eight points with 14 rebounds in the 100-47 setback to the Raiders.

Ventura Defeats El Camino to Close CrossoverDecember 28, 2024The Pirates' women's basketball team scored a 53-30 victory over El Camino Saturday to conclude the VC Crossover at the Athletic Event Center. Sam McKenzie led the way with 19 points, 15 in the first half, while Alexa Coubal netted eight, including a 6-6 performance at the free throw line. Alanna Topete and Charnelle Nichols each scored six points in the triumph.

Pirates Fight to End Against Irvine ValleyDecember 27, 2024The Ventura College women's basketball team held a 26-23 lead at halftime but could not hold on, dropping a 51-48 decision to Irvine Valley on the opening night of the VC Crossover at the Athletic Event Center. Sam McKenzie and Milan Garcia each netted an even dozen for the Pirates and Alexa Coubal contributed 11 in the game.

Ventura Women Top Foothill With Big WinDecember 20, 2024For the second night in a row. the Pirates' women's basketball team produced a big home win, easily defeating Foothill College 86-57 Friday. Milan Garcia hit five more three's in a 23-point performance and Alexa Coubal had a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds. Sam McKenzie also netted 17 with eight boards and five assists and Charnelle Nichols totaled 12 points in the victory. Alanna Topete reached double-figures in assists with 11 dimes to go along with eight points. Danielle Salazar added nine points off the bench.

Women's Basketball Routs LA HarborDecember 19, 2024The VC women's basketball team returned home Thursday with a 94-27 rout of Los Angeles Harbor. Milan Garcia hit five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 22 points and Charnelle Nichols was 9-15 from the floor for 20 points. Alexa Coubal and Sam McKenzie totaled 16 and 12 points, respectively and Alanna Topete posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 assists.

Pirates Drop Tourney Finale to San FranciscoDecember 14, 2024The Pirates' women's basketball team fought hard, but ultimately dropped their finale of the Buddy's All-Star Classic 52-45 against San Francisco. Sam McKenzie netted 20 in the effort in the game at LA Valley and Charnelle Nichols scored eight. Alexa Coubal recorded seven points and 14 rebounds and Alanna Topete also tallied seven with five assists and three steals.

Sam McKenzie netted 14 points with six rebounds and a pair of assists while Alexa Coubal scored 12 points with seven boards. Alanna Topete handed out six assists.

Charnelle Nichols scored a game-high 17 points to lead five Pirates in double figures. Sam McKenzie finished with 16 points while Devin Feiereisen netted 11. Alexa Coubal had a double double of 10 poionts with 17 rebounds and Alanna Topete scored 11 with 11 assists.

VC Women Earn First Victory of SeasonNovember 09, 2024The Pirates' women's basketbal team earned their first victory of the young season with a 68-45 decision over Taft at the Wild West Shootout at West Los Angeles College in Culver City. Alexa Coubal posted a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds and Alanna Topete scored 17 points and handed out three assists. Sam McKenzie and Devin Feiereisen netted 15 and 12 points, respectively, for VC (1-1).

Pirates Fall in Season Opener at ShootoutNovember 08, 2024The VC women's basketball team dropped its 2024-25 season opener Friday, falling 66-41 to Irvine Valley College at the Wild West Shootout at West Los Angeles College in Culver City. Alanna Topete scored 12 points in her VC debut to lead the way while sophomore Sam McKenzie netted 11 points and pulled in a team-best five rebounds. Devin Feiereisen scored seven and grabbed four boards.

VC Athletics 13th in California in NATYCAA CupAugust 12, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department claimed its 14th Top-13 finish in 19 years, placing 13th in California in the 2023-24 all-sports National Association of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup standings. Pirate Athletics totaled 106 points overall, besting its 105.5 points earned in 2022-23 that placed 12th. Ventura was also 17th for the second straight year in the Daktronics Cup Standings with two-years schools from California, Oregon and Washington.

VC Lists 70 transfers to 4-Year SchoolsAugust 01, 2024The Ventura College Athletic Department is proud to announce the transfer of 71 student athletes to four-year schools following their time with the Pirates. 48 of those transfers plan to continue their sport with 34 earning athletic scholarships. The VC class of 2024 will transfer to 48 different schools in 19 different states across the country. Additionally, 17 of the Pirate alumni have earned academic scholarships at their new schools.

Coubal, LeBrun and McKenzie Named All-WSCMarch 19, 2024The VC women's basketball team had a trio of players named to the All-Western State Conference North Division team in voting by the conference coaches following the regular season. Freshmen Alexa Coubal, Daphné LeBrun and Sam McKenzie all earned first team All-WSC honors for the Pirates.

Women's Basketball Falls in State Sweet 16March 09, 2024The Pirates' women's basketball team fell in the 3C2A Southern California Regional Final Saturday 67-50 at Moorpark. Alexa Coubal had another excellent outing with a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double and Elena Ferrara recorded a season-best 18 points including a 4-5 night from beyond the 3-point line. Mykah Johnson added six points off the bench and Tiernan Phillips pulled down seven boards in the game.

Coubal's "Sweet" Performance Leads Pirates to Regional FinalMarch 02, 2024Alexa Coubal had an all-state worthy performance Saturday with 31 points and 11 rebounds leading the No. 10-seeded Pirates to a 69-62 victory at No. 7 Irvine Valley. Sam McKenzie also posted a "20-piece" with 20 points, seven boards and three steals as VC advanced to the State "Sweet 16." Tiernan Phillips scored seven points with seven rebounds as Ventura (20-10) reached the 20-win plateau for the 33rd time in the past 34 seasons.

Alexa Coubal led three Pirates in double figures with a 17-point, 17 rebound performance and Alexis Howery netted 16. Leslie Salazar scored 15 points with six rebounds and five assists and Tiernan Phillips pulled down nine boards for VC (19-10).

VC Women Fall to Hancock in Regular Season FinaleFebruary 23, 2024The Pirates' women's basketball team sailed into rough seas Friday, dropping its regular season finale 56-42 to visiting Allan Hancock. Ventura (18-10, 9-3) held a 35-31 lead in the final minute of the third quarter before giving up the big fourth quarter to the Bulldogs. Tiernan Phillips had 12 points and seven rebounds to lead the way for VC while Alexa Coubal scored seven points with 11 boards. Sam McKenzie and Alexis Howery also netted seven points in the setback.

Pirates Mount Second Half Comeback for Win at SBCCFebruary 17, 2024After a poor first half performance, the VC women's basketball team had a complete turnaround in the second half in a 60-51 victory at Santa Barbara Saturday night. The Vaqueros led 30-16 at intermission before VC turned things around with a 23-6 third quarter to take a lead they would not relinquish. Alexa Coubal led the way with 15 points and seven rebounds and Tiernan Phillips turned in a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds along with four assists and three steals. Sam McKenzie netted 13 points.

Pirate Women Overcome Slow Start With Big WinFebruary 14, 2024The VC women's basketball team overcame a sluggish first quarter in defeating Los Angeles Pierce 74-53 in Woodland Hills Wednesday. Sam McKenzie led four Pirates in double-figures with 19 points and Alexa Coubal scored 13. Elena Ferrara and Alexis Howery contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively. McKenzie, Howery and Leslie Salazar grabbed seven rebounds each while Coubal and Tiernan Phillips each had six boards. Salazar also handed out seven assists and Phillips dropped five dimes.

Ventura Pushes Moorpark Before Fading LateFebruary 10, 2024The VC women's basketball team gave a great effort Saturday, holding an eight point advantage early in the fourth quarter before fading late in their 59-50 setback against the Raiders. Sam McKenzie scored 11 points and Alexa Coubal netted 10 with eight rebounds to lead the Pirates (16-9, 7-2). Alexis Howery stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, six boards, four steals and an assist and Daphné LeBrun also scored nine points.

Sam McKenzie posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds and Alexa Coubal led the way with 17 points, including an 11-12 night at the free throw line, along with eight boards. Daphné LeBrun scored seven points with three assists in the win for Ventura (16-8, 7-1).

Alexa Coubal posted her 13th double-double of the season with a team-high 21 points with 14 rebounds and Elena Ferrara continued her strong play off the bench with 10 points. Alexis Howery totaled nine points with five steals and Daphné LeBrun handed out seven assists, scored seven points and grabbed three steals for Ventura (15-8, 6-1).
