Faniel, Davis Named First-Team All-WSC
February 23, 2015Ventura College sophomores Vondel Faniel and Eric Davis have both been named first-team All-Western State Conference North Division in voting by conference coaches on Sunday. -
Pirates fall in double OT to Moorpark, 92-90
February 21, 2015It was a tale of two halves Saturday as Moorpark visited the Athletic Event Center Saturday in the Pirates' season finale. VC came out strong, building a 41-24 halftime advantage before the Raiders came storming back in the second half to tie the game. Two big threes by Ventura forced two overtime periods, after which the Raiders pervailed 92-90. -
Pirates Cage Condors 61-58 in Oxnard
February 18, 2015In a game of runs by both teams, the VC men's basketball team hung on for a 61-58 victory at Oxnard College Wednesday night. Vondel Faniel sparked the win with 22 points and 17 rebounds on the night for Ventura while Steven Bush added 20 points, hitting six 3-pointers in the effort. -
Pirates beat Vaqueros, 77-61
February 14, 2015The Pirates men's basketball team came to play Saturday evening, rolling to a 77-61 victory over Santa Barbara City College. Toure Atwater led VC with 15 points, all coming in the second half, and Vondel Faniel added nine points and a team-high six rebounds. -
Pirates fall to first place Pierce, 74-63
February 11, 2015The Pirates hosted Pierce College Wednesday evening in a game characterized by inconsistency play at both ends. Vondel faniel had another double-double of 19 points and 16 rebounds while Robert Hunt added 10 points as Ventura fell to the visiting Brahmas, 74-63. -
Pirates Use Second Half Surge to Take Down Bulldogs, 73-68
February 07, 2015The Pirates hosted Allan Hancock College Saturday evening at the Athletic Event Center. Both teams went back and forth for most of the contest until the Pirates pulled ahead late and held on for the 73-68 victory. Freshman guard Steven Bush led the way with 21 points, including six 3-pointers. -
Pirates Fall on the Road at Cuesta, 67-50
January 31, 2015The Ventura College men's basketball team traveled to San Luis Obispo Saturday evening, and despite a strong start, the Pirates were unable upset conference leading Cuesta, falling 67-50. Vondel Faniel led VC with another double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. -
Pirates Drop Another Close One to Moorpark, 79-76
January 28, 2015The cross county rivalry between Ventura and Moorpark was renewed at Raider Pavilion Wednesday evening, another contest that came down to the wire with the Pirates falling 79-76. Vondel Faniel Paced VC with 26 points and eight rebounds. -
Pirates Fall to Oxnard, 56-54
January 24, 2015Saturday afternoon the Oxnard Condors returned to the Athletic Event Center for the first time in three years, and knocked off the Pirates 56-54 in a sloppy game characterized with turnovers and missed opportunities by the Pirates. -
Pirates Use Balanced Attack to Take Down Vaqueros, 74-58
January 21, 2015The Pirates had four players score in double figures as they defeated Santa Barbara City College 74-58 Wednesday night at the Athletic Event Center. Jamal Lewis netted 17 points to lead VC while Toure Atwater scored 15 points. -
Pirates Drop Conference Game at Pierce, 75-66
January 17, 2015The Ventura College men's basketball team dropped a conference game at Los Angeles Pierce Saturday, 75-66. Jalon Wilson led the Pirates with 18 points before leaving the floor with an injury late in the game. Vondel Faniel nearly posted a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds. -
VC Can't Keep pace With Bulldogs
January 14, 2015After falling behind 13-2 in the early going, the VC men's basketball team could not keep pace with Allan Hancock College Wednesday, falling 71-56 in Santa Maria. Vondel Faniel paced the Pirates with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds while Jamal Lewis and Toure Atwater each scored 11 points for Ventura. -
Men's Basketball Unable to Hold On in WSC Opener
January 07, 2015Despite building an early nine point lead, holding a six point halftime advantage, and still possessing a one-point lead with 3:23 remaining in the game, the Pirates' men's basketball team could not hold on down the stretch, dropping their Western State Conference opener 52-51 at the Athletic Event Center Wednesday night. -

January 02, 2015The Pirates' men's basketball team got back on the winning track Friday night with a solid 67-53 win over visiting Riverside City College at the Athletic Event Center. Eric Davis came off the bench to lead VC (7-9) with 17 points and nine rebounds. -

November 21, 2014Racing out to an 11 point lead at halftime, the VC men's basketball team held off Cuyamaca College down the stretch, posting a 65-64 victory in the consolation semifinals of the Irvine Valley Classic on Friday. Robert Hunt nailed eight 3-pointers en route to 27 points and Eric Davis added 16 points in the win. -

November 20, 2014The Pirates' men's basketball team could not hold on to a halftime lead Thursday in the opening round of the Irvine Valley Classic, falling to College of the Canyons 61-57. Vondel Faniel had another double-double for VC (4-3) with 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Jamal Lewis contributed 10 points off the bench. -
VC Claims Consolation Championship at Alvin Hunter Classic
November 16, 2014The Pirates’ men’s basketball team claimed the consolation championship at the Alvin Hunter Classic at San Bernardino Valley College with a 99-92 victory over College of the Desert Sunday Afternoon. Robert Hunt led VC (4-2) with 20 points on 7-10 shooting, including 6-8 from behind the 3-point line. -
Men's Basketball Defeats Riverside at SBVC Tournament
November 15, 2014It was teacher against pupil in San Bernardino on Saturday afternoon when the Ventura College men’s basketball team, led by head coach Joey Ramirez, took on the Riverside, coached by Ramirez’s mentor and VC Hall of Fame coach Phil Mathews. The student got the best of the teacher in this, the first meeting coaching match-up between Ramirez and Mathews, with a 67-58 victory. -

November 08, 2014It was a rough night for the Ventura College men's basketball team Saturday as they found out first hand why Antelope Valley was ranked No. 1 in the preseason polls. The Marauders jumped the Pirates early and never looked back as VC fell 82-58 in the championship game of the We Play Hard Tip-Off Tournament at the Athletic Event Center. -

Midnight Madness Ushers in 2014-15 Basketball Season
October 02, 2014With a tradition like no other, the Ventura College men's basketball team will tip-off the 2014-15 season with its annual Midnight Madness intrasquad scrimmage Saturday night at midnight. The evening will begin at 10:00 pm at the Athletic Event Center with high school scrimmages and 3-point shooting and dunk contests.
