VC Athletics Transfers 36 Student Athletes to 4-Year Schools in '21August 11, 2021In a year like no other with online learning, season cancelations and COVID-shortened schedules, Ventura College Athletics still transferred 36 student athletes to four-year schools for the 2020-21 academic year, as of August 10. Of those transfers, 19 plan on continuing competing in their sport(s) across all divisions of intercollegiate competition. There were 15 transfers who received athletic scholarships while 20 received academic aid to their new school.

Men's Tennis Earns Academic HonorsJuly 21, 2021The Ventura College men's tennis team has been named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association while five team members have been named Junior College Men's Scholar Athletes by the ITA in a release last week. The Pirates posted a 3.35 overall grade point average in the spring 2021 semester to be one of nine programs to be recognized nationally while Bledar Gashi, Lucas Gazic, Yuya Koide, Brodie Soderstein and Ethan Wang were among 57 student athletes to earn the individual honors from the national organization.

Pirates Excel Academically in 2021 Spring SemesterJune 08, 2021Ventura College student athletes excelled once again in the classroom in the spring semester, achieving an overall 3.22 grade point average. A total of 106 Pirates earned Dean's List honors by posting at least a 3.5 GPA in 12 or more units of study, with 49 of them recording a perfect 4.0 GPA of all A's. Of VC's 19 intercollegiate athletic teams, 17 earned an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.

Men's Tennis Ends Season With Two VictoriesApril 30, 2021The Pirates' men's tennis team ended their Covid-shortened 2021 campaign with a pair of victories Friday in Fresno. VC blanked Modesto and Fresno City in a pair of matches, finishing a challenging year on a high note as Ventura was undefeated against community college competition.

VC Edged at Cal LuitheranApril 28, 2021The Pirates' men's tennis team made it close, but could not quite get the victory Wednesday afternoon, falling to Cal Lutheran 5-4 in Thousand Oaks. Ventura had a 4-3 advantage with two singles matches remaining but could not hold on against the NCAA Division III school. VC has now played six matches against all levels of four-year schools this season with the lack of community college competition available due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pirate Tennis Drops Two at Fresno StateApril 23, 2021Although the record might not show it, the 2021 Covid season has been a great experience for the VC men's tennis team. It continued on Friday as the Pirates traveled to take on NCAA Division I foe Fresno State, dropping a pair of matches against the Bulldogs. Ventura has now played four-year schools in five of its six matches this season with limited community college competition available.

Men's Tennis Win First Community College MatchApril 22, 2021After three matches against 4-year schools, the Pirates' men's tennis team finally played another community college team, defeating Mt. San Antonio College 7-2 Thursday in Walnut. Yuya Koide posted two points with wins in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles with Brodie Sodersten. Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo also won a pair of matches at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles with partner Ethan Wang.

VC Falls at NCAA Division II BiolaApril 16, 2021For the second straight day and the third straight match, the Pirates' men's tennis team battled a 4-year school, falling at NCAA Division II Biola University in La Mirada, 7-2. The No. 2 doubles team of Yoya Koide and Ryan Lam earned a point with a 6-4 victory and Lam won his No. 4 singles match 6-2, ret.

Men's Tennis Continues Difficult RoadApril 15, 2021With few community college men's tennis programs playing this spring, the Pirates' have turned to a difficult road schedule mainly against 4-year programs. That road continued Thursday as VC (0-2) dropped a 9-0 decision at Azusa Pacific University. Regnar Madarang pushed his opponent in No. 3 singles before falling 7-5, 6-3 and the duo of Yuya Koide and Ryan Lam recorded a 6-3 loss at No. 2 doubles for Ventura.

Men's Tennis Competes With Westmont in Season OpenerApril 10, 2021The Ventura College men's tennis team played their long-awaited 2021 season opener at Westmont College in Montecito on Saturday, falling 6-3 to the NAIA 4-year school. Yoya Koide won his No. 1 singles match to headline the Pirate competitors on the day.

COVID-19 Update, VCCCD "Opts-In" For Spring II SeasonsMarch 09, 2021After opting out of Spring I season sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) will “opt-in” for the upcoming California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Spring II season. The decision is based on CCCAA COVID-19 guidelines and input from the athletic directors, coaches and athletic staff of Moorpark, Oxnard and Ventura colleges. The Spring II season includes men’s and women’s competitive sports and begins April 10. The length of the season varies by sport.

99 Students Athletes on Dean's List; 13 Teams Above 3.0January 07, 2021Student athletes at Ventura College continued to achieve academic honors in the fall 2020 semester with 99 of them earning a spot on VC's Dean's List by posting a 3.5 or better grade point average in 12 or more units. Of those honores, 47 earned perfect 4.0 GPA's signifying all A's in their classes. Meanwhile, 13 of the Pirates' 19 intercollegiate athletic teams achieved an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.

Day of Giving Comes to VC Athletics Tuesday Dec. 1November 23, 2020After Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the VC Athletic Department is hosting a Day of Giving on Tuesday Dec. 1. The fundraiser conducted through text messaging or online will benefit Pirate Athletics, or any of VC's 19 sports teams. The goal for the day is to have at least 50 individual donors and raise at least $1,000 combined.

VC Athletics Partners With ASVC in Voter Registration DriveSeptember 25, 2020Tuesday September 22 was National Voter Registration Day. In conjunction with that day, the Ventura College Athletic Department has paired with the Associated Students of Ventura College to encourage 100 percent voter registration among eligible student athletes and 100 percent registration among VC students. The effort is also encouraging all students to become educated voters and participate in this fall's election.

Rosales, Hamm and Rosales Named Scholar Athletes for 2019-20September 18, 2020The Ventura College Athletic Department is proud to announce that Antonio Rosales of the men's tennis team and Michelle Hamm and Raphaella Rosales of the women's cross country/track and field and volleyball/beach volleyball teams, respectively, have been named the Pirates' Scholar Athletes for the 2019-20. All three sophomores finished two years of competition for the orange and black with perfect 4.0 grade point averages in the classroom.

Student Athlete Academic Achievement Honored on Dean's ListsSeptember 14, 2020Despite the movement of classes online and the cancellation of most of the spring season, student athletes at Ventura College continued to achieve academically in 2019-20. In the fall, 99 student athletes made the Dean's list, signifying a grade point average of 3.5 or above, while 107 student athletes were honored on the Dean's list in the spring 2020 semester.
