  • Pirate Athletics Lists 83 4-Year Transfers for 2019-20
    August 31, 2020
    The Ventura College Athletic Department is pleased to report that they list 83 student athletes from 2019-20 who are slated to transfer to four-year institutions in the fall, as of August 31. Of those transfers, 60 plan on continuing their athletic careers at their new school, most of them with an athletic scholarship. The transferring student athletes will attend 58 different schools in 26 states around the country. 
  • Men's Tennis Recognized as ITA All-Academic Team

    The Intercollegiate Tennis Association is proud to announce the 2020 Junior College Men ITA Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic Teams. With a team grade point average of 3.26, the Ventura College men's tennis team is one of 16 programs recognized from across the country on the distinguished list. Meanwhile, Dean's List honorees Antonio Rosales, Cody Castro and Yuya Koide were among the 68 individuals recognized by the organization as ITA Scholar Athletes.
  • Men's Tennis Adds Three to List of Transfers

    The Pirates' men's tennis team has added three more players from the 2020 team to its list of students athletes who will transfer to four-year schools to continue their academic and athletic careers. Sophomores Charles De La Laurencie (Florida National University), Alexandre Campolina (Westcliff University, CA) and Thorben Waldburger (Indiana University East) have all signed scholarship offers this spring, joining Antonio Rosales (Biola University), who committed in the fall.

    It is a season whose end will forever be unwritten. The Ventura College men's tennis team was the lone undefeated squad remaining in the state in 2020 when the campaign came to an abrupt end on March 12 due to the coronavirus, and their journey will always be unfinished. But despite that, the 2020 Pirates achieved many great things worthy of recognition and review.
  • Men's Tennis Ends Season with No. 3 Final Ranking
    April 23, 2020
    Despite being the lone undefeated team in the state when the coronavirus halted CCCAA athletics across the board on March 12, the Pirates' men's tennis team was ranked No. 3 in the final Oracle/ITA JUCO CCCAA Men’s Team Rankings issued by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Thursday. Ventura (8-0) was ranked behind College of the Desert (6-1) and American River (9-2) in the poll.
  • Pirates' Rosales Signs with Biola University
    April 10, 2020
    Ventura College men's tennis sophomore Antonio Rosales has signed a letter of intent to transfer to Biola University on a scholarship in the fall. Rosales, who is from Quito, Ecuador, has been VC's No. 1 player in singles and doubles for the past two seasons. Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the Pirates' 2020 campaign was cut short, and all players' year of eligibility was restored by the CCCAA. Rosales could have three years remaining to play with the Eagles, an NCAA Division II school competing in the PacWest Conference.
  • CCCAA Cancels Spring Seasons, Restores Eligibility
    March 20, 2020
    The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Board of Directors voted unanimously on Thursday that the remainder of the 2020 spring sports season will be canceled, the spring season of competition for approximately 9,500 student-athletes will be restored and face-to-face recruiting and recruiting-related travel is being prohibited immediately but will be re-evaluated next month. Ventura College is a participant in the CCCAA, and the college has moved to all online instruction for the remainder of the spring semester.
  • VC Athletics Postpones Spring Sports Indefinitely
    March 13, 2020
    In accordance with a directive from the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), Ventura College has indefinitely postponed all spring sports, including nontradtional seasons, due to concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak. The move was voted upon by the CCCAA Board of Directors on Thursday afternoon.
  • Men's Tennis Remains Unbeaten with Non-Conference WIn
    March 06, 2020
    The Ventura College men's tennis team remained undefeated Friday with an 8-1 decision over previously unbeaten San Diego City College at the VC Tennis Center. Yuya Koide continued his energetic play with another love, love victory in No. 6 singles and he paired with Charles De La Laurencie to win in No. 2 doubles, 8-4. Antonio Rosales, Cody Castro, Ryan Lam and De La Laurencie were also double winners for the Pirates (8-0, 5-0), who ar the lone remaining team in Southern California without a loss.
  • VC Has Two State Scholar Teams, Garcia Named to Honor Roll
    March 05, 2020
    The California Community College Athletic Association has named its team and individual scholar awards for the 2018-19, and Ventura College is once again well represented. The Pirates' men's tennis and women's track and field teams were both named State Scholar Teams for the academic year, and VC's Tatiana Garcia has been named to the State Scholar Athlete Honor Roll. The scholar team honors are Ventura's 38th and 39th awards since the program's inception in 1997-98.
  • Men's Tennis Clinches Outright WSC Crown With Sweep
    March 05, 2020
    The Ventura College men's tennis team reclaimed the Western State Conference championship with a 9-0 sweep over visiting Glendale on Thursday afternoon. Yuya Koide, who had a golden set earlier this season, lost just five points in his love, love victory in No. 6 singles. Meanwhile Charles De La Laurencie, Ryan Lam and Cody Castro all continued their undefeated seasons in singles play. The title is the 21st overall for the Pirates in program history, their 13th in the past 15 years.
  • Pirate Tennis Remains Undefeated With WSC Victory
    March 03, 2020
    The Pirates' men's tennis team remained undefeated on the year with a resounding 8-1 victory over Santa Barbara City College Tuesday in Santa Barbara. Antonio Rosales led the Pirates (6-0, 4-0) with a two and love win in No. 1 singles after her paired with Cody Castro for an 8-4 win in No. 1 doubles. Castro, Leo Noni and Alexandre Campolina were also double-winners on the day for Ventura.
  • Ventura Defeats Riverside in Non-Conference Match
    February 18, 2020
    The VC men's tennis team continued their strong start with a 7-2 victory over visiting Riverside on Tuesday afternoon. The Pirates (5-0, 3-0) won two of three doubles matches before nearly sweeping singles play. Leo Noni (No. 3 singles, No. 3 doubles), Alexandre Campolina (No. 5 singles, No. 3 doubles) and Cody Castro (No. 6 singles, No. 1 doubles) were all double winners for VC on the day.
  • Ventura Tennis Has Another Strong Outing
    February 13, 2020
    The VC men's tennis team continued its strong play with a 9-0 sweep at Bakersfield College on Thursday. Playing in his first collegiate singles match, Yuya Koide had a golden set, then lost just two points in winning his No. 6 singles match, love and love. Meanwhile Cody Castro (No. 5 singles), Alexandre Campolina (No. 4 singles) and Charles De La laurencie (No. 1 singles) all blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0.
  • Men's Tennis Sweeps Visiting Saddleback
    February 11, 2020
    The Ventura College men's tennis team made quick work of visiting Saddleback on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping the Gauchos 9-0. After dropping just five games in the three doubles matches, VC (3-0, 2-0) lost just eight games in the six singles contests in the dominant performance. Charles De La Laurencie and Leo Noni both won their singles matches love and love to lead the way for the Pirates.
  • Pirates Record WSC Win at Glendale
    February 06, 2020
    The Pirates' men's tennis team traveled to Glendale Thursday afternoon, coming home with a 6-3 victory over the Vaqueros. Alexandre Campolina and Ryan Lam teammed up \to win in No. 3 doubles before they each won their respective singles contest. Charles De La Laurencie was the other double-winner for the Pirates (2-0, 2-0).
  • Men's Tennis Opens 2020 With Victory
    February 04, 2020
    The Pirates' men's tennis team opened the 2020 season on Tuesday with a resounding 7-2 victory over Santa Barbara at the VC Tennis Center. Charles De La Laurencie was Ventura's only double winner, capturing No. 2 doubles with Yuya Koide and winning in No. 2 singles as well. The Pirates (1-0, 1-0) dropped two of three doubles matches before coming back to sweep the singles competition.
