
The Pirates' men's and women's track and field teams had four athletes earn All-American accolades Friday at Saturday at the 3C2A State Track & Field Championships at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo. Trevor McCarthy and Sophia Godina each earned first team All-American honors for their performances while Erick Tienda and Brianna Torres were named second team All-Americans.
McCarthy (St. Bonaventure) won a silver medal in the javelin with a season-best throw of 191'11", the longest throw at Ventura College since 1993. His All-American throw Saturday is the No. 5 throw all-time for the Pirates and is seventh in the nation among community college athletes.
Godina (Rio Mesa), meanwhile, closed out a stellar year running a 4:43.51 1500m to claim the bronze medal and earn first team All-American status. She finishes her career with the No. 2-ranked time in VC history and she places No. 11 among community college runners in the nation this season.
On Friday, Torres (Oxnard) placed sixth in the 10k run, crossing the finish line in 39:29.50, her second sub-40-minute run of the year, to earn second team All-American honors. She also finishes second all-time for the Pirates and is ranked No. 9 in the country. On Saturday, VC's only two-event state qualifier was fatigued and came in 12th in the 5k run.
Tienda (Rio Mesa), placed sixth in the 1500m run in a career-fastest 3:52.66 to earn second team All-American accolades. His time is also No. 2 all-time at Ventura College and he is ninth in the nation in the event among community college runners.
