Three Pirates Earn All-American Status at State Track
May 18, 2019The Ventura College track and field teams put an exclamation point on the 2019 season taking five Pirates to the CCCAA State Track and Field Championships in San Mateo Friday and Saturday with three coming home after earning All-American status. Adan Cruz began the awards in the 10k run on Friday, followed by Cynthia Tuzak in the discus and Brieanna Tafoya in the 800 meters on Saturday. -
Tuzak Strikes Gold at Regional Final
May 11, 2019The remaining Ventura College tracksters with a chance to advance to the CCCAA State Championships competed at Riverside City College on Saturday with three Pirates punching their tickets to the final weekend of the season. Cynthia Tuzak highlighted the regionals for VC with an upset win in the women's discus while Brieanna Tafoya and Olivia Burton also moved on to state. They join Kimora Pooler and Adan Cruz who had qualified for state a week ago. -
Cruz and Pooler Advance to State Championships
May 04, 2019Adan Cruz and Kimora Pooler punched their tickets to the state championships with top 3 finishes at the Southern California Regionals hosted by Riverside City College Saturday. Pooler claimed second place in the shot put finals to earn her way to state while Cruz claimed the bronze in the 10,000m run. Brieanna Tafoya moved past her preliminary round in the 800 meters on Saturday, as well,and ahost of other Pirates are scheduled to compete in Regioinal Championships on Saturday May 11 back in Riverside. -
Pirate Women Third, Men Eighth at WSC Finals
April 26, 2019The Pirates' men's and women's track and field teams sent 19 athletes to the Western State Conference Championships Friday at Moorpark College. At the end of the day, 15 qualified for the Southern California Regionals with the women placing third in the conference and the men taking eighth place. The performances were highlighted by Leslie Valoaga who become the first VC thrower in 10 years to advance to SoCal's in all four throwing disciplines. -
Pooler, Tuzak, and Cruz Win WSC Titles
April 19, 2019The VC men's and women's track and field teams began and ended the Western State Conference preliminaries with individual conference titles. Kimora Pooler, Cynthia Tuzak and Adan Cruz all claimed individual golds in limited event finals Friday in Santa Barbara while sever other Pirates qualifid for the WSC finals to be held Friday April 26 at Moorpark. With limited scoring opportunities, the Pirate women were in second place with 26 points while the VC men were in seventh with 19 points, just six points from second place. -
Six Pirates Strike Gold in Santa Barbara
April 12, 2019In their final tune-up before the Western State Conference Championships, the Pirates' men's and women's track and field teams traveled to the Santa Barbara City College Easter Open on Friday with six athletes turning in gold medal performances. The meet provided the team with one last opportunity to sharpen up before the five-week march to the state championships, and Adan Cruz, Isaiah Batis and Jake Turville looked to be in top form for the Pirate men while Brieanna Tafoya, Cynthia Tuzak and Olivia Burton struck gold for the VC women. -
Pooler and Tuzak Get Top Marks at Glendale
April 06, 2019In a tune-up meet two weeks out from the Western State Conference Championships, a skeleton crew of Pirates competed at the 3rd Annual Vaquero Invitational hosted by Glendale College Saturday. Kimora Pooler and Cynthia Tuzak distinguished themselves at the meet in the shot put and discus, respectively, while Darius Johnson had a strong showing in the discus throw for VC. -
Pirates Men's & Women's Track Both Place Third at Cuesta
March 29, 2019The Pirates' men's and women's track and field teams traveled the 101 freeway Friday to compete in the Western State Conference Coast Meet at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. Five Pirate individuals and one relay highlighted the day as Brieanna Tafoya, Olivia Burton, Cynthia Tuzak, Reuben Jacob, and David Lopez all took home individual first place honors. The men's 4x400 relay team of Isaiah Batis, Lopez, Jason Mesa, and Darren Houston took their third win of the season. Both teams finished third in the six-team competition. -
Lopez, Tuzak and Pooler Achieve State Mark at Antelope Valley
March 22, 2019Despite windy conditions, several Pirate track and field athletes achieved Southern California and CCCAA State qualifying standards at the Antelope Valley College Spring Invitational Friday in Lancaster. David Lopez, Kimora Pooler and Cece Tuzak all meet state automatic performance standards in the 100 meters, shot put, and discus, respectively. Jaedon Rogers, Brieanna Tafoya and Olivia Burton also captured individual golds for VC. -
VC Wins Six Golds to Highlight Moorpark Open
March 15, 2019Battling high winds and competition from three conference schools and a handful of unattached athletes, the Pirates' men's and women's track and field teams claimed six gold medals at the Moorpark Open on Friday. Adan Cruz and Isaiah Batis each claimed individual track wins for the men and Jacob Guzman won the discus throw. For the women, Cynthia Tuzak won the discus while Lilly Christenson and Kimora Pooler won the long jump and shot put events, respectively. VC's 4x400m relay team also claimed a first place finish. -
Several Pirates Rewrite Record Books at Oxy Distance Carnival
March 08, 2019The Ventura College men's and women's track and field teams participated in the annual Occidental College Distance Carnival and Spring Break Competition Saturday in Eagle Rock, producing changes in the state rankings and on VC's all-time track lists. One thrower and three distance runners made statewide impacts highlighted by Brieanna Tayfoya's 800-meter run. Olivia Burton and Adan Cruz had strong runs in the women's and men's 500 meters, respectively, and Cynthia Tuzak had a strong performance in the discus. -
Ventura Women First, Men Third at WSC North Scoring Meet
February 22, 2019The Ventura College women's track and field team took first of six teams and the men were third at the Western State Conference North meet hosted at the VC Sportsplex Friday. Pirate winners for the day were highlighted by the triple gold turned in by David Lopez who pulled off the 100 and 200 meter double, and he stormed from behind to victory on the anchor leg the 4x100 meter relay. Other winners included Kimora Pooler in the shot put, CeCe Tuzak in the discus, and Olivia Burton in the 3000 meters. -
Pirates Meet Conference Foes in WSC Relays
February 15, 2019Despite cold, windy and rainy conditions in Culver City, the Ventura College me's and women's track and field teams turned in some good performances at the Western State Conference Relays hosted by West Los Angeles College. Jacob Guzman took top spot in the discus and Dillon Chang topped the second heat of the 200 meters, while other event areas also gave a good accounting for VC. -
Pirates Start Slow, Finish Fast at Bakersfield
February 08, 2019The Ventura College men's and women's track and field teams opened their 2019 seasons Friday at Bakersfield College in the annual Battle of the regions. After a disastrous beginning when two of the three men's 4x100 meter relay teams were disqualified for lane violations, the Pirates rebooted their efforts and 12 individuals and two relays met the minimum qualifying standards for the SoCal Championships on May 3. David Lopez and Cynthia Tuzack were individual Pirate double winners.
