Five members of the Pirates' women's basketball team have been named All-Western State Conference for the 2019-20 season, as voted upon by the WSC North Division coaches. Talia Taufaasau, Cece Quintino and Madison Kast were all named first-team All-WSC while LaDaesha Merriweather and Kimora Pooler each earned Honorable Mention All-WSC honors.
Taufaasau, a first-team all-conference honoree a year ago, is the Pirates' leader at the point guard position. The sophomore from Canyon High School in Santa Clarita averaged 11.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 blocks per game in VC's eight conference contests. Quintino, a sophomore from Liberty High School in Las Vegas, NV, netted 11.4 points per game with 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 dimes. Kast, another second-year player, provided a strong presence inside, leading Ventura with 14.4 points per game in conference play. The Visalia-Redwood High School product also grabbed 6.1 rebounds and averaged 2.1 blocks per game.
Merriweather, the sophomore from Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita, averaged 7.9 rebounds and 5.4 points per game in conference play while Pooler, a freshman from Pacifica High School, pulled in 9.0 boards with 9.6 points per game in the final eight games of the season.
Ventura opens the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs on Saturday Feb. 29 at 7:00 pm against Allan Hancock College.
