The Ventura College men's tennis team went 6-0 in Western State Conference match play, winning 52 of 54 match-ups en route to the 2023 conference title. That dominance was reflected with seven Pirates earning All-WSC accolades, including co-MVP awards for Jinsei Tajima and Santino Serralonga. Philemon Jabin, Valentino Oggero and Julian Tellez also earned first team All-WSC awards in singles while Lucas Abreau and Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo joined with first team accolades in doubles.
Tajima and Serralonga were almost untouchable in singles play each posting perfect 6-0 records in WSC play at the Nos. 1 and 2 slots, respectively. In fact, the only time Tajima lost in conference was to Serralonga in the singles finals of the WSC Tournament. For their efforts, they were both named Co-Most Valuable Player at the end of the regular season by the conference coaches.
Tajima and Serralonga also headlined the first team All-WSC selections in singles at Nos. 1 and 2. Jabin, who went 4-0 in the No. 3 position in league play was also first team All-WSC. Oggero was also 4-0 in WSC matches, 1-0 at No. 4 and 3-0 at No. 5 to earn first team honors while Tellez was a perfect 6-0 against conference schools, 1-0 at no. 4, 2-0 at no. 5, and 3-0 at No. 6 for VC's final first team All-WSC singles nod.
Tajima and Jabin were 5-1 in conference at No. 1 doubles to earn that first team honor. They went on to win the WSC doubles crown and finished the season as the state runner-up at The Ojai. Meanwhile, Serralonga and Oggero posted a 4-0 mark in conference to earn fist team accolades at No. 2 doubles and Abreau and Criscuolo were 6-0, 2-0 at No. 2 and 4-0 at No. 3, for the first team All-WSC honor at No. 3 doubles.
Abreau was 4-2 in singles play, 2-1 at no. 3 and 3-1 at No. 4 to earn honorable mention All-WSC in No. 4 singles.
Ventura head coach Nelson Emery wa named the WSC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year.
