Coming off the program's sixth Western State Conference championship in the past seven years, the VC men's tennis team has been awarded the No. 2 seed in the Southern California Regional playoffs beginning Tuesday April 11. The Pirates (13-0), coming off their second straight undefeated regular season, will host No. 7 (8) Orange Coast (12-6) at the VC Tennis Center beginning at 2:00 pm Tuesday.
Ventura heads to the playoffs led by a trio at the top. No. 1 Jinsei Tajima was runner up in the WSC singles tournament to teammate and No. 2 Santino Serralonga. Meanwhile, No. 3 Philemon Jabin, a quarterfinalist in the conference draw is another solid singles threat. No. 4 Lucas Abreau, No. 5 Valentino Oggero and No. 6 Julian Tellez are also state qualifiers.
In doubles, Tajima and Jabin lead Ventura after their WSC title. The No. 2 duo of Serralonga and Oggero are also state qualifiers along with No. 3 duo Abreau and Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo.
VC heads into the playoff match against the OCC Pirates having won the regular season meeting between the teams 8-1 on March 24.
Doubles play will begin Tuesday April 11 at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center.
