Chris Wade returns to the Pirate bench for his fifth season in 2015-16. Over the past four seasons, VC has posted a combined 71-49 record, 31-15 in the Western State Conference. In 2013, VC finished with their first conference title in four years, the program's 19th overall, and in 2011-12 and 2013-14 the Pirates made an appearance in the State Sweet 16. Wade came to VC following six years of coaching at the high school level. Most recently, Wade served as a varsity assistant and the head freshmen coach at Buena High School. He was named the 2010-11 Ventura County Freshman Coach of the Year.
Wade earned bachelor degrees in kinesiology and U.S. history from the University of San Francisco. In his junior year at USF, he began coaching at the Drew School in the city. He served as the JV head coach and varsity assistant for two seasons while completing his undergraduate work at USF.
Upon graduating from USF Coach Wade returned to Ventura to coach at his alma mater, Buena High School. While coaching for the Bulldogs, he completed his Master of Science degree in physical education at Azusa Pacific University.
During the past few summers, Wade has spent time learning and honing his coaching skills on the court at the University of Washington, USC, and Ventura College instructing youth summer camps with their respective coaching staffs and players.
Wade prides himself on fundamental skill work, guard play, and defensive tenacity. He is excited to join the Pirate family and have a hand in recreating the "buzz" he remembers as a young fan sitting in the stands and while attending the We Play Hard Basketball Camps. Wade is a lifelong Ventura resident who works as a substitute teacher for the Ventura Unified School District when not coaching.
