The VC men's basketball team earned the No. 13 seed in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs, and will host No. 20 Los Angeles Valley on Wednesday Feb. 27 at 7:00 pm at the VC Athletic Event Center. Ventura (17-11) won a share of their fourth consecutive Western State Conference North Division championship with an 8-2 conference mark while the Monarchs (16-12) came in second in the WSC East Division. The teams split a pair of match-ups this season with LA Valley winning in Ventura on Nov. 1, 80-70, and the Pirates taking home a win on Dec. 21, 93-86, in Valley Glen.
Admission for Wednesday's contest is set by the CCCAA. General Admission is $12.oo and $8.00 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children less than 12 years of age.
VC enters the game as winners of nine of their past 11 games, including a must-win victory over Moorpark in the season finale to clinch a share of the conference crown. The Pirates have been a staple in the post-season for decades, including seven of the past eight seasons under head coach Joey Ramirez. LA Valley is coached by former VC mentor Virgil Watson, who directed the Pirates from 1995-1997.
The winner of Wednesday's match-up will travel to No. 4 Chaffey College on Saturday Mar. 2 in Rancho Cucamonga. The other side of the bracket includes No. 12 West Los Angeles (20-8) and No. 5 Cerritos (22-6) on Friday. The winners will then meet Saturday March 9 in the regional final. The CCCAA State Championships are March 14, 16-17 at the VC Athletic Event Center.
