
The Ventura College baseball team turned in a dominant performance Saturday, defeating Oxnard 11-0. Frederico Tiburtini was 3-3 on the day with four runs batted in and a run scored to lead the effort at the plate while Jacob Roa scattered six hits over eight innings of work on the mound, striking out four while shutting out the Condors. Victor Tostado struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to close out the victory. Caden Stillwell and Grant Rodriguez each pounded out three hits and scored three runs in Ventura's 16-hit performance.
The Pirates got the game off on the right foot with a four-run first inning. Henry Borjas led off the game with a single and Tommy Castaneda walked. Matthew Ramirez reached base on an error before Stillwell knocked in two runs with a single. Rodriguez hit a single to fill the bases once again and Tiburtini smacked a two-run single for the 4-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Rodriguez led off with a double, then scored when Tiburtini followed by reaching base on an error.
VC essentially put the game away with three more scores in the fifth. Stillwell singled, Rodriguez walked, and Tiburtini singled to load the bases before Daniel Aguilera hit an RBI single. Two outs later Borjas singled home Rodriguez an Tiburtini scored on an error.
Ventura added two runs in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Tiburtini to score Stillwell, and Rodriguez crossed home after a passed ball. The Pirates' final run came in the ninth when Riley Dalto scored on another passed ball.
The win gave VC (17-20, 12-10) a season sweep over Oxnard by a combined score of 34-4 over four games.
The Pirates will host Santa Barbara on Tuesday April 22 in their final home appearance of the 2025 season. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Pirate Park.
