The Pirate baseball team traveled to San Luis Obispo on Saturday, falling at Cuesta 10-3. Reiss Calvin had a pair of hits and a run scored while Haiden Letzing also recorded two hits in the game. Gage Allen had a base hit and a sacrifice fly and Bryce Elias hit an RBI triple and scored a run. Neal Brower, Harrison Cordeiro and Aiden Walker all pitched scoreless innings in relief of VC starter Jared Hughes.
Cuesta produced a two-out rally in the bottom of the second inning to claim a 3-0 lead.
Ventura (6-11, 2-3) came back, however, and got one run back in the top of the third. Calvin led off with a single and Mason Reid followed one out later with a base on balls. Letzing reached on a fielder's choice as the Cougars had a throwing error before Andrew Savage walked in Calvin. Unfortunately, a strikeout and fly out followed to prevent more damage by the Pirates in the frame.
A single and a home run by Cuesta in the bottom of the third extended their lead to 5-1, and they scored three more in the fifth to pull away.
Tanner Rowe walked to open the top of the sixth for Ventura before Elias banged out an RBI triple. Allen then flier out to center to bring home Elias and VC trailed 8-3.
The Cougars added another two-spot in the bottom half of the column to claim the 10-3 victory.
The Pirates have another quick turnaround, traveling back to San Luis Obispo on Monday March 6 for a make-up game at Cuesta before hosting Oxnard on Tuesday March 7 at Pirate Park.
