For the first time in program history, the Pirate football team won a state playoff game on Saturday, defeating previously unbeaten College of the Canyons 21-13. The Pirate defense had a stellar performance, led by the efforts of sophomore linebacker Trennan Carlson. The Ventura native who prepped at Mission Viejo High School had a punt block and a forced fumble, both of which led directly to VC scores, and finished the night with five tackles, including a pair of quarterback sacks, He was in the Cougars' offensive backfield reeking havoc all night long as the Pirates dominated the state's No. 1-ranked team for the entire game. Trennan will lead the Pirates into the Southern California Football Association championship game on Saturday at Riverside, and he has been named this week's VC Pirate Student Athlete of the Week.
