The VC beach volleyball team racked up two more wins Friday in Santa Monica, sweeping Moorpark 5-0 before defeating the host Corsairs 4-1. Bryce Swain and Lily Hazzard recorded a pair of sweeps on the day while Alba Romanos Gracia and Kylie Ibbotson, Kayla Murdoch and Autumn Rojelio, and Makena Schaumloeffel and Liz Schalde all swept one match and prevailed in three sets in another for Ventura (10-4, 4-0).
The Pirates opened the day by sweeping Moorpark, 5-0. Gracie Piro and Gabby Raines won in the No. 4 match, 21-11, 21-13 and Swain and Hazzard prevailed in the No. 3 match, 21-11, 21-16. Schaumloeffel and Schalde swept their No. 5 contest, 21-11, 21-15 to clinch the victory before Romanos Gracia and Ibbotson swept the Raiders' No. 2 pair, 21-18, 21-17. Murdoch and Rojelio were pushed at No. 1, but their still won in the top flight, 21-14, 18-21, 15-10 to finish off the shutout.
In the nightcap, Ventura topped the hosts, 4-1, in a tight contest. Murdoch and Rojelio moved past the Corsaris' No. 1 duo, 21-15, 21-10 and Swain and Hazzard swept the No. 3 match, 21-11, 21-13. Romanos Gracia and Ibbotson came from behind to win in the No. 2 slot, losing the first set 21-15 before coming back to win in the second and third, 21-15, 15-11, respectively. Piro and Raines dropped the Pirates only point of the day, falling in a hard-fought three-set decision at No. 4, 21-23, 21-19, 15-10 before Schaumloeffel and Schalde also went the distance, defeating SMC's No. 5 pair, 23-21, 19-21, 15-10.
Ventura hosts on Friday March 29 as the Pirates will face a rematch against Moorpark and take on rival Santa Barbara at the Ventura Harbor Cove Courts. VC's play begins against the Raiders at 10:00 pm and they will take on the Vaqueros at 1:00 pm.
