The Ventura College women's tennis team got back on track Thursday with a 5-4 Western State Conference victory over Santa Barbara at the VC Tennis Center. Bella DeRosa recorded a win in the No. 2 doubles match with Bella Moga and won the clinching singles contest in the No. 4 slot. Chrystelle Aguiar was also a double winner for the Pirates (5-6, 3-5) against the Vaqueros.
Ventura split a pair of contested matches in doubles with DeRosa and Moga winning the No. 2 match. 8-4. Ventura's doubles pair of Aguiar and Beryllyn Paz won the No. 3 doubles match by default to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead headed to singles play.
Paz won by default at No. 6 before SBCC closed to within 3-2 with a point for the No. 1 singles match defeating Alexis Schmidt. Aguiar captured the No. 5 contest 6-2, 7-5 and the Vaqueros answered with a win at no. 2 singles over VC's Nicole Iannacone. De Rosa then clinched the victory for Ventura, winning 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Moga then dropped the final match of the day in a three-set marathon, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 10-6.
The Pirates continue WSC play on Friday March 8 with a home match against Bakersfield at 1:00 pm. The contest is a make-up from a rain-out on Feb. 20.
